Tyler ( XRF Formula1) in your testing did you not find the side to side oscillation that myself and Karl both experienced, especially at Monza where it was particularly pronounced? Going along those straights was a real exercise in concentration to keep the car in a straight line and with my normal FFB settings I would end up with arms like Popeye. Oh boy did I ever! Lol That start/finish straight at Monza is deadly if you make the slightest mistake. Did you switch everything that you could between the right and left sides of the car setup for clockwise? It's the best I could do for it, most of the dampering is locked for Indianapolis so my guess is some of the oscillating comes from that. Other than that, I don't need to turn the wheel going around the banking there. It's kinda nice lol.

Other than that, I don't need to turn the wheel going around the banking there. It's kinda nice lol. I got on for a quick session this evening but switching everything around made the car like a bucking bronco... Going around the turns the car was moving all over the place and always on the edge of sending me into the wall. No matter what setup I use going through T1 the car gets all out of shape more often than not. I think the physics are perhaps a bit out of whack with the car as well because it gets almost sideways at those times but if you keep your foot in you can get the car back under control and carry on. The oscillations are a big problem though and so far I've not been able to get in more than a handful of laps before it causes an incident. With these long races we are having i'm a bit concerned we'll end up with hardly anyone still on track. I can get into the 50's ok at Monza but managing to keep it out of trouble is where the problems are at the moment. I'm going to concentrate for a while on Daytona seeing as that's our first race and see if I can find something that makes it acceptably driveable. I had a few laps earlier but again the oscillations made it impossible to get any decent runs in. Also noticed that you can have a huge contact with the walls with no damage at one point and then on another the slightest contact will cause high damage. It's a bit weird all in all.

I found out the same things at Monza as well. I usually stay in the 52s to play it safe, the bumps when you exit and enter the oval (start/finish side) can ruin it all real quick!

Yes, I agree Tyler this series is really going to be about who manages their pace the best and keeps engine damage and incdents to the least rather than who has the outrright speed. Monza is going to be the toughest of them all I feel and will be the most difficult to have any side by side racing due to the wandering car syndrome that is most apparent along those straights. After my post last night I went on again and had a solid hour testing at Daytona, a fair bit of which I streamed so I could go back and analyse some of it. I concentrated on car driveability rather than pace and made several setup changes and eventually found that the Toe settings were the one that had the best effect on the wandering car \ oscillating steering issue. It didn't cure it but made it a bit more manageable but you do have to get a number of laps in to warm the tyres before you can really feel whether it helps you. I am going to try increasing it some more the next time I am on to see if it help's further but in the run I put in after making that final change I was able to put in a decent run of 15 laps with a best of 46.761 (with a draft) and averaging mid 47's throughut befoer I ran out fo fuel. However, that was with running the stint on my own and no other cars to contend with during it as they all either remained in the pits or were at other parts of the track. It becomes much more difficult to manage when other cars are around you because it is so difficult to make those small, smooth steering adjustments that you have to do to keep away from each other under those circumstances. Tyres are not much of an issue again and after those 15 laps the worst was the right rear which was overheating and had 10% wear, front right was 9% and fronts were left 2% right 3%. Fuel goes down at just over 3 litres per lap with the setup I was using. The damage model is a bit strnage and as I mentioned previously you can have the a real big impact with no damage and then just brush the wall and pick up several percent on the suspension. This car above all others so far is very difficult with any suspension damage at all. You can see my Mixer stream here mixer.com/Hammerpgh?vod=78124167 it starts off in replay mode showing a little of the wandering problem and how easy it is to just make a small steering correction which sends you one way and then trying to correct it puts you into the wall. That impact at the end of that replay lead to zero damage!! I tried to see what causes damage and you will see from this stream that several light impacts brought damage but others did not so it's a bit hit and miss and you can never be sure when damage will result.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the right rear overheats at Daytona although I am not sure how much effect it will have because as stated the wear rate is still very low despite that. I noted from the in-car telemetry that the Travel indicator was going red through turn 3 so I assume this means the car is hitting the bump stops through there and would be the cause of the grip loss going around that corner which in turn would of course also not help with the tyre overheating. A bit more investigation and testing of the bump stops and rebound is needed next to see whether it makes any difference.

I had the same problem, and when we get there it's 3 tyres at Texas that will overheat😵
I noticed from my testing at Daytona that the best way to minimize that bump is to take the highest part of the banking.

I did try different lines but found the high line significantly slower than just reducing the throttle to about 80% and taking the normal line. The higher line also meant more chance of touching that outer wall, so difficult to be accurate in this car with the way the car wanders. I have yet to try Texas but I can imagine it will be more stress on the tyres. I'll get to that once I feel I have a decent handle on the car for that first race at Daytona.

What's everyone's schedule looking like for next week? I was thinking of having an open pre-season test at Daytona on the 23rd; usual time, all are welcome. The session itself should probably remain private though.
I was thinking a 20 min quali followed by a few short sprint races so we can prepare for wheel to wheel oval racing. We could work on communication during side by side racing and practice cautions?

I'll be up for it if I am able Tyler. I am away from that Saturday though (off to northern Italy for a 50th birthday surprise for the missus) so may be tied up getting things ready for that but if not i'll certainly join in.
You might be better to do a longer race though but just reform under a caution several times to get people back together to test out the SC procedure and the racing in close proximity, etc.

I've got a work dinner with the owners of the company I work for coming out from the mid-west. I will not be available on the 23rd.

That's a good idea Pete, we can get more data from the car running longer that way as well.
Well Karl, it might just be me and you, and you and me, so happy together!
We'll have to see how the beginning of the week plays out and maybe we'll get a new body or 2 and won't be all by ourselves.

I downloaded the Discord app recently. For those that didn't know (like me lol), it's an instant messenger for gamers. I found an open invitation to the DSRL on the Project Cars 2 forums and it took me straight to the Playstore.
I'm going to play around with discord some and let you guys know if it's worth using as it might come in handy for our League.

I've had it for some time and subscribe to several groups including pcTuner but I don't use it much.. it's too unstructured for me and makes following conversations quite cumbersome as everything gets lumped into one long thread so makes finding things very difficult if a there's lot of chat.
Give me a good forum structure any day.

Like Peter said I much prefer a structured forum over discord. Many of us came here from the DSRL and that was one of the things I disliked they did. They have a really nice looking forum that they pay for and put a lot of time into. There are guys there putting a lot of time into the site, making really nice graphics and all that. But since they picked up Discord they funnel everything thru there. I mean no disrespect to anyone over at the DSRL, or any of my former moderators there, but I think discord is just a jumbled mess and hard to follow conversations. I like a forum where you can see "NEW" post notifications in specific threads. This site is just as easily viewed on a phone as a PC, I don't really see the need for a 2nd form of communication. Maybe i'm just becoming a cranky old man who doesn't like change, but I hope we don't lose too much of our current format here even if discord is implemented along side the forum.

Don't worry Greg, that's my exact take on it too and this forum is not going anywhere while I am still around lol. I guess Discord has it's place and plenty seem to like it but one of the groups I joined with the intention of joining in some of their races I gave up on because the relevant information just got lost under a jumble of chats about all manner of things. You can structure it to include threads for different things but you know what it's like when people start chatting things can son get lost and the structure not used. I didn't realise DSRL had gone that route...

After playing around with it a bit I can confirm that it's very disorganized. It might work for quick chat between teammates for car setups and last minute notifications but I think what we've got here is good enough and I like how it's formatted much better👍
I'm not sure how much i'll be using discord but if you want to add me my number is #1241.
