VINTAGE INDYCAR 1965 SEASON RULES & REGULATIONS
The Lotus 38 was the first mid-engined car to win the Indianapolis 500, in 1965, driven by Jim Clark. It was run by Lotus at Indianapolis from 1965 to 1967; a total of 8 were built, most for use by Lotus, but several were sold for use by other drivers, including A. J. Foyt and Mario Andretti.
It was designed by Colin Chapman and Len Terry as Lotus' 1965 entry for the Indianapolis 500. It was an evolution of the previous Lotus 29 and Lotus 34 Indy designs, but this time with a full monocoque tub chassis; it was powered by the same four-cam FordV8 fuel injected engine as used in the 34, giving out around 500 bhp. In all of them, the engine was mid-mounted, improving the weight distribution and giving it good handling. The 38 was significantly larger than Formula One cars of the time, but was dwarfed by the massive American roadsters.
The 38 was specially designed with an "offset" suspension, with the car body situated asymmetrically between the wheels, offset to the left using suspension arms of unequal length. Although in theory this was better suited for the ovals (which have only left turns), for example by evening out tyre wear between the two sides, in practice the handling was sufficiently idiosyncratic that the concept never caught on widely.

SESSION STRUCTURE
Races will be held on Wednesday evenings with the lobby opening at 4pm US Central/5pm Eastern/10pm UK time with the following format to be used:
One lobby with a max of 16 drivers.
Qualifying - 25 minutes
Race Duration - LAPS in 60 mins (3600 (seconds in 60 minutes) divided by Average lap time in seconds). The only exception is Indianapolis, which will be about 15 minutes longer.
In game times will be as follows:
Qualifying 11:00am
Race 13:00pm
Time Progression - OFF or SYNC
Season & Date - Loosely based around the real life 1965 USAC Championship Car season from spring to summer.
Weather - The weather for each event will be released with each signup. The weather we can expect to see on each track could be:
*Clear, to overcast on ovals.
*Clear, to light rain on Hockenheimring.

POINTS SYSTEM
Points are awarded based on laps completed. You could retire and still receive points. The top 12 drivers will receive the following amounts:
1ST: 100Pts.
2ND: 80Pts.
3RD: 70Pts.
4th: 60Pts.
5th: 50Pts.
6th: 40Pts.
7th: 30Pts.
8th: 25Pts.
9th: 20Pts.
10th: 15Pts.
11th: 10Pts.
12th: 5Pts.
SPECIAL RULES
-VINTAGE TYRE
You must select the Vintage tyre in your setup and only the vintage tyre. It was the only tyre that was available in 1965.
-INDIANAPOLIS 500 STARTING GRID
The Indianapolis 500 starting grid will be as follows from left to right:
(Pole)--(2nd)---(3rd)
(4th)----(5th)----(6th)
(7th)----(8th)----(9th)
(10th)-(11th)-(12th)
(13th)-(14th)-(15th)
(16th)
-NO PIT LANE SPEED LIMIT
Pit limiters & Pit Lane Speed Limits didn't exist in 1965 so you need not worry about them.
-BLOCKING/OVERTAKING
You may make as many blocking attempts as you would like. Please be respectful when wheel to wheel racing.
-RETIRING
If you have to retire your car and can't make it back to the pits, you must pull off to the side of the track and shut your engine off. The only exception is if you're completely stuck and blocking the raceway, then you must retire to the paddock.
-FATALITIES
These are some of the most dangerous racing cars ever made with almost no safety. If you were to get in an accident that would fatality injure you in real life during any of our sessions, you can choose another car and you'll have two different sets of points (your deceased self and your new self).
-TRACK & PIT LIMITS
Turned off because of the above rules but they will still be enforced through trust and stewardship with time penalties. I review the races but can't catch everything.
-YELLOW FLAGS & CAUTION LAPS
Safety Cars will be called when a major incident occurs involving more than one car unless a single car is in a extremely dangerous position or there is excessive debris. Please stay in communication with the rest of the drivers.
The race leader will become the SC and will maintain the speed of the field at a slow pace.
Cars may warm tyres but no excessive braking or weaving.
The field will follow single file and there is no over taking except for damaged cars or if a car makes a mistake.
Cars that make a mistake during SC can not reclaim their position (this also applies to the warm up lap)
The pits will be open at all times during the SC period.
Cars that pit do not regain their pre stop position.
Lapped cars can not get their laps back by passing the field other than if the field pits.
SC duration will be determined by the amount of Cars requiring repairs but will be a minimum of 2 FULL laps on Ovals.
The race will resume once all the cars on track are in the train. Any car still being repaired after a reasonable period will rejoin under green flag.
The race will restart single file and the Leader will call it coming out of the last corner unless the circuit does not allow for this.
The call will be GREEN! GREEN! GREEN!
-CONNECTIONS
If multiple people have connection issues (i.e. disconnects or can't connect), the race may be restarted with the remaining amount of laps when the connection is good, or postponed until the following week, depending on circumstances and what everyone agrees upon.
