Well, that fuc£ed it up!! Got in just in time to get in only to find an update waiting that took bloody ages to verify... Why you can't continue and update later is beyond me

Don't you have your Xbox set to update in rest mode?

Q:5 R: DNF lap 25 WellI did make it further than last year at least. Utterly disappointed to lose my pedals on lap 25. At least I spent the last half hour installing new pedals. Sorry to niblips for the contact on lap 1. I'm glad I didn't ruin your race. I was hard on the binders trying to keep from contact with you. My front wing was broken enough necessitating a pit stop. Figured I was going to try and get back to a top 5 finish but the mid field was very close on times. On to Baku and hopefully recover from the dismal race at F1 1000 china.

Q: 6th R: 4th
First proper running in the wet for me on the wheel, dunked it into the wall on the final corner on my first hot lap, which I don't think was too bad but I'll never know. Second run was okay, went for a third but spun at the final corner again so retired from the session.
Race was good at the start, was keeping pace with the front three but couldn't keep it up so just kept dropping back into no man's land. Had a good little run with Karl for a few laps until I spun at the hairpin and then the rest of the race was trying to keep Gareth at bay for 4th during the rain.
Got a lot of work to do to get back to being comfortable in the rain again and still need to work on dry consistency and pace, cause being that far off the front three who had no practice is disgusting 🤢

Was really surprised to get P3 in qualy considering I'm normally terrible on a wet track. Apologies for the formation lap guys, I was eating Shreddies and excited to be back so got a bit flustered.
Opted for the yellow softs to start and lost a few places off the line; I'm not sure what happened into turn 1 but I thought I left room on the inside and got punted off...I think by one of the Ferrari's.
Overall pretty happy with the P5 and am again surprised I got to the end, that was my first 100% race in a good while. Some lonely parts in the race with big gaps ahead and behind but had a few good battles with Mitch to keep things interesting. See you guys probably at Spain.

Don't you have your Xbox set to update in rest mode? No idea but I guess not. Not even seen that option. My Xbox does randomly turn itself on though and i've no idea why it does that either. It really pi$$ed me off though having rushed back and made great time on the journey and managed to get in just in time to jump in. So when I saw that update pop up and it crawled through verification I almost threw the thing out of the window 🤬 Anyway just been watching the Long Beach Indycar race so i'm off to that track for some practice to make up for tonight's disappointment.

In settings if you go to power and start up, have it set to instant on and there should be an option that says something like "keep my games and apps up to date". If it's turning itself on randomly then it's probably already set to that and then no idea why it didn't update. Sucks that it stopped you from racing though 👎

Q-4 R-1
Balls up my fast lap ran wide at T1.
Got a really good start for once somehow ended up in the lead everyone seemed to miss the braking point for the hairpin. Started on the low tyre strategy so kept banging on US tyres for 1st couple stints lead kept steady at 5 seconds then onto softs for the 3rd. Alex caught me about lap 43-44 on his fresh softs cos he went long so boxed for US tyres and started to reel him in again think he had an issue cos lost like seconds then the rain appeared with 8 laps to go and i knocked my wing off at the hairpin in the rain so figured id box for Inters and hope for the best somehow ended up coming past everyone in the pits and then Karl/Alex had some kind of issue at the long turn right onto the back straight then it was a comfy 2 laps til home. No idea how i won this at all haha

Q-P2 R-P3
Quali was a bit of a mess. went out with the intention of doing 4 or 5 laps but only wound up with 3. The first lap was good and saw me in P1 straight away, and the second lap was way better but i binned it in the last corner. Then i got a message from Peter and was trying to reply to him...so i was sat there just off the circuit where Albon binned it over the weekend. By the time i sorted the messages out i just decided to give another hot lap a go, even though i was starting from a stand still just before the start/finish line. Put in a fast lap, but not fast enough to keep Alec behind. I think if i had a propper run at that last lap it would have been a closer race for Pole.
Race - The race was fun all the way through. slight contact with Railer at the hairpin on lap one, but no damage for me (sorry you took some railer). Then it was a close battle between Alec and Boothy and Mitch and myself for the first 8 or 10 laps i think. Positions swapped a bit and then kept getting switched around at the pitstops as everyone seemed to be on different strategies. The Yellow tyres weren't really working for me, and my car was understeering terribly in the long tight corners, so i was losing time to Alec and Boothy. Decided to do the last 2 stints on the Ultras since we didn't use any in quali and they were all brand new. My pace was better on them, but the car was still understeery. Set fast lap on my final set before the rain came. Was surprised to be so close to Alec and Boothy for the last few laps, it looked like anyone could win it as we all seemed to struggle a bit. But good win for Boothy in the end.
Baku is next....i like that circuit, but it can be so dangerous....

If Alex got past me early on in the race he'd have walked it i reckon but i kept being difficult into the hairpin by sitting in the middle of the track so if went outside id keep him out there and if went inside moved over towards him before changing back just before the braking zone to get a better line and swoop back under him. Looking forward to Baku shall be interesting to see how it goes cos need a steery car but zero downforce

Q:1 R:2
Had an OK quali session. First run was just an attempt to learn the track and get a sense for the wet conditions. Pitted and put on new tyres and added some fuel to do a couple runs as the session ended. Was pushing on my next attempt and spun out of turn 4. Saved fuel and ERS then went again, was driving pretty well and set a fast time. There was time left in the session so I decided to keep going and ended up going faster (I think the track was drying slightly as the session ended).
Got a good start off the line but I ended up missing my breaking point into the hairpin down the long straight, so Boothy got by me. I was hanging on to him pretty well, went for a number of moves into the hairpin but Boothy did well defending, I couldn't make it stick going around the outside, while we were fighting we enabled Karl to attach himself right onto us. I made a mistake and then Karl went through, he fought Boothy for a bit while I caught up and then Karl made a mistake so it was my turn again. Boothy dove for the pits (I didn't realize at the time he was going for multiple stops on the US tyres). A number of battles after the first round of pit stops, as Boothy US tyres began to fade I made my way past him.
I thought after the second stop I had the race strategy right and had the lead so I just had to make it to the finish. But eventually Boothy stopped again and put on US again, he was gaining on me. He was on pace to catch up to me right at the end of the race. I was hoping for the rain to come in order to neutralize his advance with a forced stop for all (oh how foolish of a wish). Boothy made a mistake and I had a decent gap to attempt to make it to the finish.
But then the rain started to fall. I was managing it until the moment DRS became disabled, Jeff told me I was on the wrong tyres as I approached turn 6 and all the grip was gone, I just slid right through the turn, then continued on the rest of the lap hastily trying to make it to the pits. All was going well until I got the exit of the hairpin (turn 14), too much throttle and I slid out onto the grass, I was all over the place and stopped just short of the wall to the right (no wing damage) but had to reverse and attempt to get back on track. I probably lost 20 seconds. Made it back to the pits and then came out behind both Boothy and Karl. Three of us had a good battle to the finish (sorry about the potential little tap on the final lap Karl).
Another race, another P2 finish.
Fun race all around, congrats to Boothy on the win!

Hi Gareth, Unfortunately it was the Ferrari,I had a really good start but spoilt it, I lost my braking point and made a late choice which shifted you forward, sorry for that, that’s not like me to be that careless. Glad you managed to continue and finish in a credible 5th place. Unlike me , had a bad race never really able to keep up with you others, need a whole lot more practice, both wet and dry racing was very erratic.. pleased to have finished all the same.. Looking forward to Baku and hopefully a better race.

Well, I enjoyed my first dip into F1 2018 racing. Started to expectations somewhere near the back then it started to rain had no means of changing tyres mapped so was reduced to snails pace (clearly I need more understanding of mapping). Have now sorted entry into the MDF menus and looking forward to your company at Baku.

Here's the live stream of the race from about lap 30 from various cars and camera angles. No idea the stream stopped as I started it at about lap 2 when I when I joined the lobby.
