I’m done with XBox One. It doesn’t work as advertised with this game. Sorry to hear that Pete.... it sounded like things were not going well. I couldn't comment at the time as it was taking all my focus to keep Rich behind me in the first stint!! What issues were your facing last night?

Go get it Peter, I got mine on eBay and sold my old box again on eBay. I was up there in qually but on reflection chose the wrong tyre. Everybody else was on the reds. More race symulation needed for next time.

I didn't find it too much slower in practice, about half a second, although that was only based on a handful of laps tbd. I would have swapped to it for the second stint if the wear wad worse than I expected but as it was the red tyre lasted plenty for me with a bit of gentle throttle application out of the corners.

I was really expecting to be watching the 500 qualifying by 21:15 but all my praying to the racing gods (Ricky Bobby 😁) payed off. Still reeling from not being able to do Long Beach I’ll admit I had turned an IndyCar wheel till 20 mins before the free practice. Stil, by the end of that session I’d found my groove. Then in qualifying I put it on P2, I had the pace for pole but binned it coming out of the twists on my last run. For the warm up I turned the engine down to lean I think this got me a extra lap on the first stint. I had a good start and avoided what sounded like a biggish shunt behind me and just followed Pete as I knows he had a time pen eventually I did get past on the long straight and made around a 3.5-4 second gap but then I just lost my mojo and he fought me and past me again. Not long later he boxed and I did another lap by now my tyres (reds) had gone and I stopped a lap later. I put reds back on but had a long stop due to engine wear so I was about 28 seconds behind I pushed and managed to cut it right down to around 14 but kind of settled for second when I saw the time drop right down and could see P1 in front of a group of back markers but by then my tyres had gone. P2 was my result and really happy with that. Over all great racing all round.

Glad we finally had a problem free race last night, so thank you all for your continued support and patience. Another bad race for me again, decided on a 2 stop strategy and started on the prime tyres, had a good start and made a few places before spinning and falling to the back of the field, still had some cars in range and pushed hard to start reeling them back in but had another talent shortage and crashed sustaining some damage. Pitted to repair the shunt and came back out finding some good grip as the track rubbered up, pushing to regain the ground I’d lost went off again in the esses, pitted again for repairs but on leaving the Pit Lane I released the limiter button half a second too early and ended up with a 10 second penalty for Pit Lane speeding. Managed to get pass Mick after his issues and ran that stint on the Alternate tyres and was setting some good consistent lap times but burned the soft tyres quicker than anticipated. Boxed again and came out last and managed to finish without any further incident. Hopefully, going forward we will continue to have a stable lobby and have some enjoyable racing.

I was really glad that we all got loaded in and ready to go. BUT, I had practiced all week with TT and a Custom race set up with 6 AI with the same race set up as the actual race. Everything was going quite well. UNTIL, the Qualify started. Rear tires were over heating, Steering was off, and the FFB had to be turned down so much to eliminate the grinding that I could hardly feel the tire force. Then when the race started it was like night and day with the handling, and the rears were red hot.
So, after all that preparation, it seemed like at race time I had just jumped in a car and off I go. If that's how it's going to be, and that's how it's been for a while now, then I really don't enjoy that at all.
Not sure what I'm going to do at this point, but I'm not wasting any more time just to get frustrated.

I just went conservative in the second stint with lots of short shifting to save it and also help with fuel. Yeah mine was around 10 as well but I always fix it. Especially if there’s a good chance of being stuck behind another car or so.

One thing I did to save on the engine wear and fuel is turn down to fuel mix 1. I should have done it for more of the race to save more fuel. I lost a bit of time changing the setting but it helped slightly. I don't know how much damage I did to my engine but it didn't feel like i'd lost power thoughout the race.
My replay actually saved! Not sure how close to the 250mb mark I am but ill be making a video for this race at least. It will be different from my F1 vids as it will be replay cameras only. I'll try and find the best parts for everyone so this might take a few days.

Well, that was a pretty unexpected result on Saturday!! I knew I had some decent pace but had not managed any really consistent run at all and those kerbs in and just after the esses were giving me problems every time I went on track so was not feeling confident at all. Turns 6 and 7 were particularly prone to spin me and then I would regularly got caught on the turn 9 and 10 kerbs and get stuck like I was on rails Practice really didn’t help my confidence with a best of only 1:52.860 on my final run with the first three spoiled by sector 1 and 3 spins. So only enough for a 4th place in that session. Qualifying I managed a banker lap of 1:52.309 on my first lap but the next 3 laps were ruined by second, third and first sector problems so I came back into the pits for a refresh. I had dropped from 2nd down to 4th at this point 9/tenths behind Karl in 3rd spot. Second run was much more like it… a 1:51.382 was enough for second place behind Micko by just 6/thousandths but then I nailed the next lap as good as I could have hoped, improving on all three sectors to take provisional pole with a 1:51.871. There was maybe a bit of room for a faster time but I’ll have to check back on my recording to be sure but it felt like a pretty solid lap. There was only time for others on track to complete one more lap and as the session finished I was still at the top of the charts Very good session with just over 3/tenths between positions 2 to 4. Great stuff guys Now onto the race… not the greatest of starts when I blew it on the formation lap lol. I knew to keep it to 75 and did so initially but then as we went through the esses my race head was telling me to keep the speed up to keep the downforce for the esses that had bothered me so much.. I went to over a 100 before I realised doh!! and a completely justified penalty. Thankfully it was just the 5 second time penalty and not the drive through that would have really compromised my race. So once we got around on the formation lap my start was pretty good but I went a little deep on the cold brakes into turn 1 almost allowing Rich to sneak through but just kept ahead. Through the esses I had a nasty moment as I took a bit too much kerb and the backend kicked out sending me into the start of a spin that I just managed to catch (not sure I would have been able to do that on the original box) and I had enough of a gap to Rich behind to just stay ahead going through the rest of the esses. Slightly wide at turn 11 but no biggie and the rest of the lap was clean and with Rich following closely the others had already started to fall away. The pattern of the next 8 laps was pretty much the same. Rich would gain through the esses where I was struggling to keep a tight line and he would close to somewhere around 5 or 6/tenths then I would stretch it again through the final sector in particular the 16>18 constant radius turn which I love and the gap would grow to 8 to 9/tenths. Rarely were we more than a second apart during this spell. The lap 9 I got a not so good exit off the hairpin onto the long back straight and Rich saw his chance and I assume used some push-to-pass and I knew halfway down the straight that I was toast. I didn’t fight it too hard and left the room on the inside knowing we had a long race still ahead. I stayed close into turn 13 but then I was a bit too keen on the loud pedal into 14 and had a part spin which again I just collected but still lost around 4 seconds as a result and the biggest gap between our cars in that first stint opened up to the tune of just under 4 seconds. Over the next couple of laps I started to close it back up and then was right back on Rich’s tail as he started to struggle with the tyres. On lap 14 having followed close behind for the lap he ran a touch wide at the tricky turn 13/14 and I managed to slip underneath to reclaim the lead. I held a gap of around a second and a half over the next lap and a bit and although I had wanted to do one more lap I was a bit nervous about running out of fuel on my in-lap so came in at the end of lap 15 handing the top spot back to Rich who stayed out a lap longer. Looking back at my recording I could probably have made the lap ok and made the second half of the race much easier but at the time in the heat of racing I didn’t feel it was worth the risk. The pit stop went smooth as silk, 10.2 seconds which equated to around 37 seconds in total with the in and out lap which I thought was crucial with such a tight battle in prospect. I only went for fresh softs and a full tank of fuel leaving the engine damage alone, although it was at 12 I felt the repair time would be prohibitive and I knew I would be managing fuel for the second half of the race so could ease the stress on the engine anyway. I set out of the pits and went purple for sectors one and two on my out-lap. Rich had to pit at the end of the lap and as I crossed the start/finish line I fully expected to find him coming out in close pursuit so was very surprised to see him still sitting in the pits. As I approached the esses his car just started to move and once back on track the gap was up to 30 seconds so I assumed he must have gone contrary to me and fixed some damage. With such a strong lead and a big gap to the rest of the field I was now able to just manage the race and try to drop my fuel consumption. I went to normal mix straight away but it seems the fuel mixes make very little difference in the fuel rate and I was still using about 4.3 litres per lap. I started short shifting and coasting a bit and this made a bit more of a difference but not really enough so I knew it was going to be very tight. The gap had not come down a great deal and was still around 26 seconds on lap 22 with about 15 minutes remaining and I knew I had to ensure that I did no more than 31 laps or else I would run out of fuel early on lap 32. At this point I came up behind Hurt. I stayed behind for a while hoping being in his slipstream might help conserve some juice but lost a couple of seconds so decided I had to make my way past but as we went through the esses I didn’t take account of the loss of downforce and had a bit of a spin that sent me off track. No damage but by the time I got back up to speed I had lost around 10 seconds and the gap to Rich was now down to just 11 seconds. Knowing full well I had to keep a gap of 6 seconds to keep account of my time penalty it was getting a bit squeaky lol. The next few laps saw the gap increase to around 14/15 seconds despite my still keeping my fuel numbers by staying in the 55’s and 56’s so I knew Rich must be struggling on the tyres. Having passed Dave just after he pitted I then caught back up to Hurt and I knew had to get past and he let me go cleanly through. Laps 29 and 30 had to be around the 2 minute mark to achieve my 31 lap limit and a 1:58 followed by 2:01 were enough to see me cross the line for lap 31 with around 5.5 litres left in the tank. A safe lap of 1:56 was enough to see me take the flag with a lead of just shy of 11.5 seconds with 1.3 litres left sloshing around in the bottom of the tank. I parked up when it ran dry on the long back straight. Phew!! As I said at the start.. totally unexpected, pretty much as it had been at Long Beach too but this one was a very different race with fuel rather than tyres being the main concern. Thoroughly enjoyed my battle with Rich, both in close proximity in stint one and at a distance in stint 2. Not sure which was tougher to manage lol. Would have been nice to take the clean sweep with fastest lap too but no way that was possible with the way I had to take the second half of the race so well done Rich on that one Good job everyone., shame to hear of some problems for some and I really hope SMS can do something more to alleviate those soon.

I did some testing of this at Long Beach and noticed that although the pace goes down on the lower fuel mixes the fuel rate used stays pretty much the same. I also lowered my mix in the second stint yesterday but my manual calculation during the race showed I was still using around 4.3 litres per lap regardless of this. And having now checked my data from rsDash I can confirm that this correlates with that in that there is no change between them. Short shifting and higher gears through some corners makes a bit of a difference but the biggest difference maker is getting off the throttle. In my really slow lap 30 when I really got off the throttle early it was 4.08 and the final lap was 3.9. It's a shame the fuel mixes do not really seem to factor into it and whether it's just this car or across the board I am not sure as i've not tested it anywhere else. Well that was a really enjoyable event. The first 25 minutes were the best part for me. I ran both stints on the Blacks and had basically the same pace as Micko in the first stint. Followed him around for 14 laps, never getting closer than 1 second but never farther than 2. Really enjoyable. Then he spun exiting the left hander after the back straight. I pulled a few second gap but my tires were also going. I had to make it to the half way point before pitting and I spun twice on my last lap of the first stint. After having a longer pit stop for engine damage I came out of the pits and pushed all I could. Micko pitted a lap after me and came out about 14 seconds ahead but he had his rear end damage and I immediately got by. The 2nd stint was pretty lonely. SgtF1 pit with about 10 minutes left and made up about 10 seconds on fresh tires but I maintained the gap and followed Peter around for the last few laps. COTA was never a favorite of mine so I'm pretty happy with a Podium.

I couldn't go more than 8 laps in practice without the wear and the shake on Red. I didn't get any shake with the Blacks, but i could tell there was a definite loss of grip. I do NOT have the X.

One of the things I do notive with the X is that my wheel seems to be smoother than on the original box. Of course it could all be smoke and mirrors and I just think it's smoother lol. But for sure I never managed as consistent a run of laps without error in any previous practice at this track and I had no sign of any wheel shake at all. My left front was my most worn tyre but it still had about a third of it's rubber left at the end of each stint. How much wear was showing on the HUD for your tyres?

I could feel the lack of grip coming on but nothing like the feel of worn Reds.
