Well that was fucking stupid, backed off cause the supersofts started understeering and then they just spat me into the wall on the T5 exit at the first sign of wear 🙄

A race to forget for what it was. Quali was meh and then bumped into Mitch at turn 5 on the first lap, apologies Mitch. The shunt caused some wing damage and I went backwards until pitting early for the wing change. First lap out of the pits and hit the wall after that chicane before turn 9, back in for a new wing. Decided on the white (mediums? hards?) tyres, not realizing how slippery they were. Struggled for a bit and then slid into the wall exiting the last corner, had enough at that point so retired. I'd love to school you all at Monaco but will spare your blushes I think.

Another disappointing session for me, big off in quali at T9 resulting in me starting at the back of the grid. Chose the hard tyres and was immediately on the back foot running high 25’s low 26’s then ran out of talent again at T9 which ended my race
On to the streets of Monaco 🙂

Q: 12th due to grid penalty R: 6
Had good start stayed out of turn 1-2 trouble. Kept decent pace. For some reason car spun turn 8 3 times causing me to pit for front wings. Should have had bit more downforce. SS tyres don't last long at all, compared to the real F1. Kept it clean other than getting happy with the go fast pedal causing spins. Pit crew was glad the race ended as they were out of nose wings. Good to see Race Point Force India score good points. On to Monaco as crew will be bringing lots of spare parts.

Q: 4 R: 4
That was a lot of fun… managed to get in one practice race which ended up being wet for over 40 laps so wasn’t totally sure what my pace was like but knew I had gob loads of understeer so opted to add a couple of clicks front wing as didn’t have any time to test anything.
Quali: First run I felt my way and didn’t push too much but could feel straight away that it was much better and although only a 1:21.184 I felt I had a lot more to come. Second run was much improved, two and a half tenths up on Sector 1, 4/tenths on sector 2 and crossed the line with a 1.4 second improvement to 1:19.764 which briefly put me into 3rd ahead of Mitch before he stole the place back with a 1:19.585. A quick stop and then out again with 3 minutes left and things were looking very promising with improvement in sector 1 and 2 showing me around 4/tenths to the good. I lost a couple of tenths running a bit too deep at turn 10 but was still on to slip past Mitch until I came across a Force India in trouble at the entry to the chicane and couldn’t get around quickly so clattered into the back of it. Still, No biggie, more than happy with my best quali of the season.
Race: As at Baku I didn’t get the best of starts so clearly have some work to do there and lost a place to Gareth into turn 1 but kept it neat and tidy the rest of the lap and slipped back past Gareth’s Sauber when he went off at the top of turn 11/12. The group behind seemed to fall away and Boothy was quickly on my tail and blew past me under DRS on lap 3 and then my team mate was closing in quickly and a couple of laps later also had an easy DRS pass. After Mitch’s spin into the inside wall at the exit of turn 5 I was up into 5th and was able to stay close to the sister Haas but a couple of laps later I almost had a moment when I lost downforce running behind him into turn 6 so backed off a touch and concentrated on getting through the rest of the stint. Didn’t really feel too confident on the softs tbh and got rid of them at the end of lap 12 to go to the yellow tyre which gave much more consistent grip for me and my laps times dropped and became much more consistent. As the pit stops and various incidents played out I moved between 3rd and 5th with some fun racing with Boothy but also noticed that Neale was coming much more onto my radar after some very strong early pace with that particular gap coming down to around 9 or 10 seconds over the last half a dozen laps of the second stint.
Pitted at the end of lap 39 from 4th place which allowed Boothy to jump ahead by around 5 seconds but I knew he had to pit again although his early pace each stint was really quick so it was going to be tough to keep him behind me until the end of the race. That never materialised in the end as his race ended on lap 49 a few laps having spent the previous few laps after his stop a couple of seconds behind me. My focus for the rest of the race was on Neale’s Ferrari ahead of me with our pace so close that it took me from lap 44 until the end of the race to whittle the gap down from 8 to 2 seconds. Thoroughly enjoyable spell of racing though with constant management of the ERS to try to keep the pace up and the pressure on.
Definitely my strongest race of the season, a couple of almost moments but nothing major and my lap times were amongst the most consistent I have put together for a long time.
Good to see a decent sized grid again and well done to all that made it to the end of what is always a long and tough race.
My quali and race:-

Heads up, you doubled up on the Baku results for the drivers. I actually removed the Catalunya column completely so drivers was one race short and Constructors had the total completely missing.. I spotted an errant column in the results table and deleted the whole column including from the two tables underneath DOH!! Corrected now.

Quali - had terrible understeer in my setup so added some front wing and did an exploratory lap on a full fuel load right at the start of quali. I thought it felt ok so I pitted and lowered the fuel and went back out on the same tyres to see what kind of quali pace I could do. Botched the start by forgetting what I was doing and almost pulled into the pits again before setting a lap time. That meant I didn't get an ideal drive off the last corner and hadn't set my fule mix and ers to the max. Turned them up anyway and started the lap knowing it wouldn't really be a representative time. That car felt ok but when I hit turn 7/8 I almost lost the car into the wall. Next corner I went in a little too fast and went wide over the kerb but then over steered into the wall much like Dave. Boom. End of quali. No time. Was expecting to start p12 or p13 but after others had incidents I wound up in P9.
Race - will update later

Q-6 R-5
Pretty uneventful race for me. I'm terrible on the opening lap apparently as I dropped from 6th to 10th by the end of the lap. Other than that I didn't really pass anyone or get passed, other than lapped traffic. Really happy about finishing and running a complete clean race. A good showing by Railer as well and good points for Racing Point Force India.

Great qualify was happy with second after only really having 1 run. Had a great start jumped to 1st all going well then left my 1st pit 2 laps to late so lost time and positions. Then just struggled on soft for rest of race they just didn’t work for me so just tried to do what I could to keep 3rd from Peter some great race management in that one what with fuel limited for race Well done to all that got to end ..

Q:1 R:1
Quali: I don't know where those lightning laps came from. The best lap I managed in quali practice was something like a 1:18.4. I felt good and hooked up on both my second and third runs. To set an 18.1 and then a 17.7 was nuts from myself. But from the practice that I ran, I knew being on heavy fuel was not a great outlook. Quali laps (0:10:28) and (0:17:25)
Race (0:25:35): Had an OK start off the line, but Neale beat me into turn 1. I hung with him during the first lap, but just couldn't get good drive off the last two corners. I wasn't feeling good on the SS tyres and a heavy fuel load. Neale started to pull away.
(0:29:30) Then on lap 3 out of turn 11 I made a mistake which let Mitch and Boothy onto my tail. I decided to let Mitch through on the straight while I collected myself (maybe team orders...). But I got by Mitch into turn 4 of the next lap but then Boothy was on me as well.
(0:31:20) I defended down the straight but he made it work around the outside of turn 1. Boothy had serious pace until he made a mistake in turn 11.
I spent the next few laps catching up to Neale but couldn't get close enough to go for a pass. So I decided to due the undercut. (0:39:45)
I set about trying to set fast laps to eat into Neale's lead. And when he came out of the pits it was damn close (0:43:00), but I held the position around the outside of turn 1. I expected Neale to be right back on my tail, but was surprised he couldn't seem to turn it on with the Yellow tyres. So I was on to chasing Karl down on older Yellow tyres.
(0:56:48) I caught Karl at the end of Lap 22 but decided to wait for the ideal chance to pass. Which occurred on the next lap.
The rest of my race wasn't to eventful, mainly just watching as Karl closed the gap when he put on the Red tyre. But ultimately the gap steadied at about 9 seconds. Across the line to take my first victory of the year.
Congrats to the podium gents and all who finished!
