That was a great test session yesterday with some very close times posted in the practice and qualifying sessions. So important to get that draft help to get the best lap possible.
Race was a lot of fun. First lap incident saw me pitting for over two minutes and coming out a long way down (about 4 laps) but my pace was good so got my head down and after cutting my way through the field was pulling in Ian at a rate of knots and was below 30 seconds just before he pitted. Took the lead by 22 seconds before making my stop on lap 52, got down to the pit speed just before the line, hit the limiter and approached my box only to get dsq'd for speeding 😯. Having looked at my stream I can see that when I hit the pit limiter button it must have registered a double press as it went on and then immediately off again without me realising🙄. May be a dirty connection or something. I'm loathe to use the auto pit limiter as that's an assist in my book but i've had this problem a few times now so have to find an alternative solution.
Enjoyed watching the end of the race from several other perspectives although disappointed to miss out on what could have been a brilliant race to the flag with Ian 👍
Here the session from my view.

I agree with Peter it was great fun. I finished 2nd in qually with a PB...was going round in good shape then smashed into a stranded car with no wheels on just after turn one. Slowly made my way back round to the pits and had the same issue as Peter. Hit the limiter button on my wheel the car then speeded up again and I was DQ’d. I have my limiter assigned to the LSB button on the Logitech G920, will change it to the view button and see if that eradicates the issue. Considering there was some rookie oval drivers last night the standards were high well done to all.

You had good speed here though Micko, coming round to this form of racing yet? Agree on the driving standards. Really hoping we can keep hold of everyone throughout the season. Should be a really good one 👍

Last night was probably some of, if not the most fun I've had in a racing lobby since I got into sim racing. I know that sentiment may not be shared between everyone in there due to frustration, and that's perfectly reasonable. I did a ton of practice leading up to this so I felt I had a good handle on it, consistency and running in a group/with other cars was what I really needed to do last night and it definitely helped.
My qualifying setup is really fast, the guy who I took it from had a world record with it at one point I believe (I'll find the link to it on youtube, really good qualifying/hotlap setup if anyone's interested. Think he managed a mid 23 on his own) but finding people for a tow was the hardest part, definitely gonna have to do some bartering/teamwork to get good times on the ovals. Managed 2nd but forgot to put my limiter on leaving the pits and napped a 1 place grid penalty like a genius.
Race started and me, SirRibShack and Mick took off from everyone, had a pretty good gap after a while. Me and Mick lost his draft and he pulled about 5 seconds on us, but ended up spinning or something so we took over the lead. I was just biding time, staying close enough to keep the draft but enough to not lose the nose of the car when the incident right at the exit of 2 happened and when me and Mick tried to stop we both washed up the track, he couldn't stop and got into Liam hard. I missed both of them by millimeters, could've read the bloody serial numbers off micko's gearbox lol I still don't know how I missed that one! then it was just cruise control. Did find out how terrible my race trim car is without a tow though. Like pete said, he was pulling seconds out of me a lap. Some minor aero damage from a skin of the wall hadn't helped, so I decided to go in and fix it and see if it helped... It didn't, my car was just that slow. Too much wing, I wanted to keep it safe and stable, when I had super low downforce in race trim it was all over the place so I figured add wing and hope I can stick with someone. Gonna have to work on that for the first race there.
The DQ thing happened to Pete and then it was really cruise control to the end. I was bummed about not having that race to the end because it was going to be really tight between the two of us to the end, I think I was about 15 seconds back when he pitted. Damned PC2 and it's unpredictable race control again! Either way, even if I was dead last in that one it was such a good time that it wouldn't have mattered, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face the whole time. Absolutely chuffed to bits with that one guys, great fun and I can't wait to do it all again in a couple weeks!

Wish that incident hadn't happened so we could've kept it going. You were definitely pretty rapid out there, would be awesome to see you in the proper race on the ovals when they come up! Pete, when you say keypad, do you mean the controller, buttons on the wheel or do you have like a separate keyboard or something? I thought about getting one of those small numpad keyboards to use for a button box but as for as I understood you can't do that on the xbox. Let me know, I'd like to get some more options for action buttons if I can

There's plenty available and I picked mine up for £4.99 from Amazon. Really helps to have the extra buttons available👍

Good to know, that's definitely going on the list for this week! I wasn't sure if I could get one or not on the xbox but I'm gonna have to go get one now

Peter, just looked at your replay and you can see the double on / off input on your vid 1:50:30 in. Another thing I noticed was the game spotter is much better than Crewchief on oval. In my crash with Liam on Lap 15 I had NO warning of obstruction ahead but your spotter gave you warning...watch from 1:33:37 to 1:34:28 to see sequence. Will use game spotter on Oval next time Great vid by the way

I'm going to try to see if it is better on the keypad rather then a button on my wheel. I currently have the Y button as my limiter but can re-assign that as something that a double press won't be so costly. Funnily enough I was thinking of digging out Crew Chief again as I haven't used it for a while. I assumed it would give better information especially when cars are around you which is where I really think you need more info. The side by side is the toughest part on ovals and what caused my first lap incident because I was concerned about contact with Will on the inside and drifted wide. Have you got it set to give you the most frequent information as I know you can alter that.

What's the one called that you were using on Saturday Peter, or was it a spotter setting in the game that you had turned on?

I use the in game spotter setting as well on ovals and occasionally on road courses. I know the road courses part isn't the most realistic but I don't like to have the driver looking all over the shot in turns so it helps me know if someone's s alongside me, especially on the right side and tracks I struggle with. But anyways, on the ovals the in-game spotter is decent but could be better. I don't remember him calling out the accident micko referred to but he did warn me quite a few times almost a sector early about hazards, although his directions to avoid said hazards leave a lot to be desired... One lap he told me go low, the next high (where the wrecked car was sitting on its roof) and so on. But overall it's definitely worth trying on ovals

I probably have it maxed to as much info as possible which is especially needed on ovals.

Ah, ok. I haven't changed that in game stuff, so it's set to whatever the default is. I'll have a look at that tonight, I'll probably do some more laps in Texas while it's still fresh.

Here's the link to the setup I found for qualifying. With some tweaks it could probably be ran in the race, but it burned the tires off within a few laps for me and I'm not a good enough "wrench" so to speak to get it set up for the race.

I THINK what's going on with your tires may be you need a little more spring and some more pressure to account for the extra fuel load you'd carry for a race. But I wouldn't listen to me if I were you.
Really wish I could have got into that session but my personal and work situation is increasingly..fluid, looked like a really good time!

Thanks for the racing tonight guys. I made countless mistakes and kept wrecking but I learn a lot from you guys so hopefully I won’t be as much of a hindrance soon and will be up there with you guys 👍 Ovals are a very different skill set but with patience and a bit of practice you’ll be challenging for podiums. There are plenty of setups on YouTube with a bit of adjustment can make all the difference. We’re very glad that you’re Racing with us and we’ll do our best to help you get faster. Cheers Dave

I did try cranking the pressures up a bit with that setup, it helped a bit with heat but they still got too hot a few laps later. Didn't think to add spring though, that's not a bad idea. Car's quite loose off in that setup after about 6-7 laps so I was softening the roll bars and springs a touch for a race setup but I never got it where I liked it so I just went from scratch. Like I've said before I'm not the best tuner or whatever you'd call it on PC2 yet, my car handled like a champ but had zero too speed. Had way too much wing bolted to it
