So guys how the hell do I change the driving view? I cannot find that anywhere and no button changes it for me and I can't find anywhere that I can sign a button to that facility. I'm clearly missing something.
Edit: ignore me i've found it.

I had another spell with ACC tonight and the game is definitely growing on me. I tried the cockpit view without the wheel and it did seem to be better with a little smoother performance. It's still not great but it was an improvement. The driving experience is definitely the real draw with the game and that is what really grabs you and pulls you in to it and helps to overcome the shortcomings.
I have yet to try an actual single player race so that will be the next thing on my radar as i'm interested to see how the AI perform and what levels they can be set at and how the performance suffers with the addition of them.

An interesting comparison video here between the original Xbox and the X.
Really interesting and amazing that there is pretty much zero difference between the two consoles on release. This is either very worrying that they have not been able to extract any extra performance out of the newer box or possibly gives some hope that there is a lot of room left to optimise the game on the more powerful X.

Only one post on here today so I can only assume everyone else is just enjoying this game like I am lol. I spent most of my evening getting all of my track medals to just get it done with. Only have Zandvoort, Suzuka, and Bathurst left to get but seeing the differences of the tracks for this game from other games is incredible. Just the small details they get right that other games don't. I'm assuming all of the circuits were laser scanned so they should be this good. Also a possibly helpful hint for anyone that doesn't have all their medals, if you do it in wet conditions or at night you only have to do 3 laps instead of 4 to get all 3 medals.
I also took a peek at the Special Events (is that what they're called?) last night and tried the "damp" pole lap at Catalunya in the Mclaren but I was so slow and couldn't get any heat into the tyres so gave up on it after my first try. Will need to take a look at doing some wet weather practice in the future. Today I did the Hotlap at Silverstone in the Bentley and I have to say I actually like it. It isn't as nimble as the Ferrari but it felt pretty good so I'll probably try and give it a shot.

I am really enjoying it too Adam. I'm only managing to get in fairly short sessions but each one is really drawing me more and more info the game.
I attempted my AI first race last night and have to say they seem to be really good. I had some great racing around Silverstone with the AI providing some really good competition and impressively the framerate did not suffer due to the inclusion of the AI cars. I raced with 19 AI and performance was solid. I'm not indicating that it's what it should be, it's still not the smooth look we get with other titles but it's certainly good enough to race with and not notice it too much. The initial feeling of wtf this is awful has now gone and I'm much happier with it than I thought I would be.
Once private lobbies are available it's certainly got some promise for a really good series for us all.
The interface is still incredibly quirky, especially when in the car. I managed to get the incar adjustment options up while driving last night but I could find no way to turn them off. None of the D-pad buttons seemed to close it. Anyone got any clue how that works? The assignments indicate the D-pad buttons should cycle through the screens but once you've opened it up they only serve to adjust what's on highlighted on screen.. Very frustrating and typical Kunos interface confusion.
R desperately needs to have external keypad support as you are so limited without that.

Does anyone else find you have to keep adjusting the steering lock for each individual car? Keeping the lock on the one setting doesn't seem to work for me from car to car, turning the in-game wheel doesn't match 1:1 when I turn my wheel. I had a bit of time in the game earlier and had a go with the BMW and Bentley at Nurburgring, enjoyed the Bentley but not so much the BMW. Have to admit the game is growing on me, but the ffb is still weird. Sometimes it feels as the the wheel has turned itself off as there's nothing at all, and then there's feedback, anyone else experiencing this?

I keep the in-game wheel turned off but didn't notice it not matching when I did have it on. I am currently running my wheel at 540°.
Can't say i've noticed the loss of ffb myself, it's not the strongest anyway she I need to tweak it some. It was always very good in the original game so hopefully it will be as good with a bit more work.
I'm currently concentrating on the Aston Martin until I have a good feel for the game.

ACC Wheel rotation lock settings:
Ferrari = 480 McLaren = 480
BMW = 565
Lambo = 620 Lambo ST = 620 Honda = 620
Lexus = 640 Aston Martin = 640 Bentley = 640 Nissan = 640 Mercedes = 640
Jaguar = 720 Audi = 720 deg R-EX = 720 deg
911 GT3 = 800 911 CUP = 800
I’ve not tried all of these but it does make a difference.

I just had a really enjoyable session first in the Bentley at Silverstone in the Hotlap event and then the Audi in the Brand's Hatch Hit Stint session. I really like that latter idea, not something I've come across in any title before. Rather than just focusing on a single lap you have to show consistency over a 30 minute stint. This week's one is in the wet too which really adds to the challenge. I'm assuming they change weekly?
Really enjoyed the Bentley at Silverstone, it's strange because it feels like a tank so you don't notice the speed but it's really quick and nicely planted too. The Aston is much lighter feeling and trickier to drive.
I'm still struggling to work out how to properly use the switchable in car options though. Once I get them up there seems no obvious way to get rid of them. In the options there's nothing you can map for that. Any ideas on this anyone?
I think it would be good to have a separate area on here to post our events progress and encourage each other? There doesn't seem to be a way to measure yourself against your friends on the leaderboards. We could use it to his or own internal competition. Thoughts on this appreciated and welcomed 👍

Let me know if that works!

I've pressed every key on my keypad and also have a mini keyboard which I use for typing messages on the Xbox and pressed every button on that too but none of them switched off the in-car adjustments screen. There's number of keys that do various things that are not documented but closing that screen is not one of them. Bloody annoying. Edit 2: ok so now it seems to work using 0 on my keypad. Strange as I didn't change anything but I guess that's just the quirkiness of Kunos interface for you 🙄

Thanks for that, is it normal to have that many different wheel locks for a game? I'm just comparing it to pcars 2, where you calibrate your wheel after the game loads and all the cars match that. The Jaguar doesn't seem to be on the car choice menu for me either?

I don't change mine at all. I leave it the same for each car and it's worked in those i've tried so far.

The game has definitely taken over for me at the moment and i'm enjoying it massively. These are the things for me that need addressing as a priority:-
1) Private lobbies. A must for those of us wanting to enjoy this sim for league play. 2) Fix the damn wheel issues. I still have to unplug and replug my wheel in every time I start the game. Also the profiles system is rubbish and you can't seem to save the steering lock in them. 3) Keypad mapping. They seen to work after a fashion for certain things but you cannot map them properly. They are clearly recognised so it just needs Kunos to fix the interface to show us to assign buttons to whatever we want. 4) FFB. It's quite light for me at the moment. I've only got mine set for 75 road feel and gain but it doesn't give me much feel at that level. As they got this pretty much right with AC I'm hopeful it won't be too long to get it right with this one too. 5) FoV. I am pretty happy with it as default right now but this feature really should be in any serious SIM so let's hope it finds its way in here soon. 6) Optimisation for the X. As shown in that video yesterday the performance differential between the X and original Xbox is negligible. I'm sure with some work they can give us an extra 10% on the X. Strangely though i've gotten used to the framerate and it's not impacting the enjoyment for me at all now.

Quick question: do you have to be playing online to do the track competence for each track? Or in a certain session? I can't seem to find where to activate it, I've heard you can't do the track in multiplayer until you've completed the track competence?

I'm not in the game so I can't remember exactly which setting it is but I know it's in the HUD settings and you would change it to Track Competence. I did all of mine in practice sessions except one I did during a race against the AI.

Looking forward to tossing myself into the mix here next week. Got a couple things I need to take care of first but I'm gonna try and get a hard copy from the local game stop and if that doesn't work I'll be downloading it in probably less than a weeks time. Can't wait to try it!

Should be interesting to see if maybe they up that fps cap eventually or make it more stable, etc
