I finally picked up AC (price drop and coupon made up my mind) and I have mixed feelings. Driving is good but I feel like I have to learn how to tune all over again.
The following post is based on running the Mercedes 190 at Brands Hatch so the symptoms might change with other cars...
As a tuner first (racer second), I rely on tire temps to aid in determining what the car is doing. Hot front - Understeer / Hot rear - Oversteer (in simplest terms). I also use the temps across the tires to aid in dialing in camber and toe.
My concern is that after 35 laps, some of the tire temps finally got into what is supposed to be the normal range. I have the tire blankets turned on, tire wear turned on. I have tried dropping the pressure all the way to the minimum but in my opinion it should not take that many laps to reach the tire temps or that extreme change of pressure.
ALSO
Are the Inner Middle and Outer readings messed up? Once again I have change camber from one extreme to the other with no significant change across the tires. Also with the O / M / I tire temps, it seems they may be labeled incorrectly. On the left side they are listed as O / M / I (with O reading higher). On the right side of the car they are listed the same (O / M / I) with I reading higher.
Has anybody else noticed this?

y22rydr I have to agree with you . I am by no stretch of the imagination an experienced tuner but the tyre temps in AC just don't seem to work. In pcars I rely on the temperature information to set pressures to give an optimum operating level, but the readings in ac do not seem consistent when I check them and each tyre can vary wildly from another. Also having to stop racing and go in the pits to read them makes me wonder whether I am seeing racing temps or somewhat cooled tyres as you are now in the pits. I then wonder when i exit the pits have the temps been reset to cold or not I have said in the current tt I just can't get any real confidence with the tuning in AC and I begin to wonder if it is implemented or working correctly

I agree with you both, there is a lot of messed up status displays. Basically, I have been just going by feel of the driving, and looking at the status in the pits as a relative indicator, but not actually absolute. Another thing noticed was that each car has its own type of set up, and to some extent its own screw ups, so it has become difficult to make any sense out of all this. I just do each car as an individual tune, regardless of what this car or that car may have produced in another tune set up. And then add in the fact that every car has a different set of options that can actually be tuned, and there you have it! A completely confusing set of circumstances. The good thing about AC for me is that I'm learning to drive better, so it's like a tool for me. The bad thing is it seems to be wreaking havoc in my XBox console, and I'm very leery about doing anything other than practicing. One good note is that 505 support is fairly good, and they actually get back to you.

The saved game problem is a headache and I am hesitant to invest much time into the career if I am just going to get the "Delete your saved game" message every time I turn the game on. I am glad I did not pay full price for this.
I do agree that it challenges your driving skills and you actually have to know how to drive. The audio feedback (particularly with headphones on) keeps me dialed into what the car is doing. I get the audio feedback with the FFB and I can tell if I am pushing the car too hard.
The tuning screens don't make much sense to me after dealing with actual numbers that are in pCars. I make adjustments and watch the numbers change on the left hand graphic. I understand what each item does, it is just that the range of numbers doesn't make much sense. So far the most I mess with is toe, tire pressure, and camber. I am still on the NOVICE races due to the saved game problem.

I set the levels so that I primarily hear the tires and brakes to help know when I'm approaching the traction limits.
