I haven't been back on this since the day after Boxing Day.. struggling to get my head back into any virtual racing and only had the console on over the weekend to watch the NFL Wildcard games. I'll try to get on and give this car another test sometime this week but I think the chances are that I am not going to get myself back into racing\gaming mode until after I come back from the break I have arranged for my wife's 50th later this month (Jan 26th > Feb 4th). Weekends are currently taken up with the play-offs so with all that being done and dusted the first weekend in Feb too I am hoping I will get my racing mojo back at that point.
Has anyone else been on and done any further testing to see if there's any answer to the engine damage issue? I think the only way it can perhaps be avoided is to run the 2nd gear long and keep the revs well under the limit and just run this car much slower than you feel it should go and than it's capable of. Haven't tested it yet but will look at it as soon as I can. The side to side oscillations are going to be difficult too, not sure if that's something that can be corrected in the setup somehow so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to post them here for us all to try out.

Sadly, I haven't been on since before Christmas myself. I have yet to even try the car out.
Some of the things mentioned about the car above might be fun as we'll be forced to take care of the car during the races. One thing I read is that in 1965 there was a mandatory 2 pitstop rule. If we do an hours long race like we've been doing I think it will be about pit strategies too and not just endurance.
It would switch things up a bit. My only concern which isn't big, but if it would turn some people off and we'd be stuck with a small grid again.

I think i'd like to stick with the Lotus and take the #82. Hopefully Karl will be happy to team up again with the #83 so we can defend our constructors title 😉. What do you think Karl? I'm on board with that Peter!

In the lotus i think people might be stopping frequently anyway. it's so slippy down the straights. The slightest lapse in concentration can send you off.

I think that was just for the Indy 500 rather than the season as a whole... due to an accident the previous year they changed the rule in 65 to reduce the fuel allowed in each car which forced them into two stops. I am happy to introduce it for all races though if it is felt this would add to the proceedings.

XRF Formula1 I think we should start thinking about getting a schedule in place so everyone has some idea of when the aim is to get this short series started.

I just got in my first laps with this car. I have only tested Indy so far but plan on testing the rest later today and in the coming days.
It's definitely a different beast, I can't even keep up with the AI at 85/60 but am still learning the car. I think this is going to be a good time. What sort of times is everyone at on Indianapolis? We'll need an adverage lap time for each track on the calander in order to set the lap amount.
This is my version 1 proposed season calander:
1. Daytona - OVAL 2. Monza - CLOCKWISE OVAL 3. Indianapolis - OVAL 4. Hockenheimring - ROAD 5. Texas - OVAL
We could also switch Monza and Hock if we want it in alphabetical order Is there any I'm missing?

Isn't there also a Mojave oval in the game?

Isn't there also a Mojave oval in the game? That's right, I forgot about that one. Does it have pits in P.Cars2? EDIT: Dang, it doesn't look like it has pits. Probably because it's considered a test track.

Sorry for the delay. I have the provisional calander ready as well as some other useful information. The car is very much drivable with the Vintage tyre and that's what I think we should use. The AI are quite reckless and too fast at 20/50 on most of the tracks so we definitely won't be using them. I have the events scheduled for the opposite weeks that of the Modern IndyCar series in case we want to combine and move to Saturdays for just this season. If we don't decide to do that it might be worth considering to just have the Indy 500 on sat. March, 16th instead of the 13th just for 1 special event. 1. DAYTONA TRI-OVAL - February 13th, 2019 (75 Laps)My average lap time: 0:48 My best lap time: 0:47.9 In-Game Date: March 28th, 1965 2. MONZA CLOCKWISE OVAL - February 27th, 2019 (69 Laps)Average: 0:52 Best: 0:51.12 In-Game Date: April 25th, 1965 Monza Notes: To setup the car for clockwise ovals it's best to choose the SMS Oval setups and switch everything that you can from the left and right sides. Note that the dampering is mostly locked because it was setup specifically for the Indy 500. 3. INDIANAPOLIS OVAL - March (13,16?)th, 2019 (75 Laps)Average: 1:00.2 Best: 1:00.014 Real life best time for the 1965 Indy500: 0:57.14 In-Game Date: May 31st, 1965 Indianapolis Notes: This race will be about 15 minutes longer than the rest. We can make it longer if you want . The INDY 500 starting grid will be rows of 3 from left to right: (Pole) (2nd) (3rd) (4th) (5th) (6th) (7th) (8th) (9th) (10th) (11th) (12th) (13th) (14th) (15th) (16th) 4. HOCKENHEIMRING CLASSIC ROAD - March 27th, 2019 (25 Laps)Average: 2:24 Best: 2:23.5 In-Game Date: June 20th, 1965 5. TEXAS OVAL - April 10th, 2019 (97 Laps)Average: 0:37 Best: 0:36.5 In-Game Date: July 25th, 1965 Texas Notes: I've tried a bunch of different things but I can't seem to stop the tyres (minus the front left) from getting really hot. I think it might be from the nature of the speedway plus the use of Vintage tyres. If you drive carefully you can keep them in the lighter orange but your pace can drop off quite a bit. This track might end up being the most interesting one. Interested to see what you guys think of all of it so far. I know i'm starting to get excited for it!😁

I haven't been back on yet Tyler. Just can't seem to get the motivation for any racing back.. maybe once the NFL playoffs are over and I'm back from my break away with the missus in the first week in February i'll get back into it. This has probably been my longest break from it since I started racing on the Xbox back in 2010!!
How did you find the engine damage in your tests?
Not sure Saturdays will work for me tbh.. Always a tough one as it's the busiest day on the family and social front. I'm not even sure I'll be a regular in the Indycar League for that reason.

I had them much higher for Monza and Hockenheimring around 65/50 and probably could have went higher.
I'm probably still just a greenhorn when it comes to the American ovals and that's why I couldn't keep up lol

Should we move everything back a week or is everyone good to start on the 13th? I'd like to get a start on this season as soon as we can, the next F1 season is going to be 11 rounds if we do the 1967 season. The 1963 season can be archived and then I can start working on the rules and sign-up pages for this season. Engine damage is unavoidable. I have the radiator opened 100% on all 5 tracks and still take damage if my revs stay too high. I kind of like it though actually lol; adds to the realism. I haven't tested out the track tyre so I can't comment on how well the car runs with those.

I have archived all the 1963 season posts to unclutter this form. Ironically I did this before seeing this post.. great minds think alike eh Tyler lol. I was able to reduce the engine damage somewhat by just running slower which is of course something we are not used to but will provide a little extra challenge for us all as fixing engine damage takes prohibitively long and will be something we will all want to avoid to not lose out in the races. Should be fun.

Tyler ( XRF Formula1) in your testing did you not find the side to side oscillation that myself and Karl both experienced, especially at Monza where it was particularly pronounced? Going along those straights was a real exercise in concentration to keep the car in a straight line and with my normal FFB settings I would end up with arms like Popeye.
