What sort of race lap times are you managing? I'm getting high 41's and cannot see a better time. Gearing maybe... what's your aero set to?

Confusing thing for me is that my pace in custom race mode when in quali trim is much quicker than when I'm in Time Trial mode. Am I the only one finding that? I see a lot of sub 40's in TT but I'm still only on a 40.1 yet in quali I'm easily in the low 39's and have been in the 38's as well.

That’s down to the track rubbering in as more cars are running in a race scenario, in TT there’s clearly only 1 so a lot less track evolution plus the tow from these cars can be felt from almost 7 seconds behind and that makes a whole lot of difference to lap time.

I did think about that but I've managed 39's on my first lap in practice or quali without any other cars ahead of me though.

Schneeb and I were in a party chat last night and he was saying that in TT he gets a better lap time with a ghost loaded and running on track than if he just runs on track by himself. He was doing a bunch of testing and using the same setup. Maybe he'll chyme in here....

I tried with a ghost earlier but my pace was no different to when I didn't have one loaded.

This is why I don’t think the AI is viable for a training tool especially on ovals. The difference between AI on PCars 2 and F1 is in F1 they have one type of car and track unlike in PCars 2 with multiple car and track types. This is why I think they slow down in the corners on the ovals and also why they cut turn one and leave all the mud everywhere. One you get the level and aggression right they are not too bad. Had another go today with them at 75 and although their lap times are still too low at that level there weren't any slowdowns while I was passing them. You do have to be on your toes though especially when you have the draft add the closing speeds can really catch you out. I'll probably dial them up to 90ish to see what sort of pace that gives them. Yeah that dirt on the track happens all the time but doesn't seem to effect anything. If you hit it wrong it’s like ice and makes you need to lif too much for my liking. I just don’t get why they programmed that line for them.

I hit that mud once last night and I lost grip momentarily. Had to correct the car and come off the throttle. I just avoid it now.

It only bothered me if I went a tad too low otherwise I could just drive through it.
I agree Rich I'm not sure why they made that line for the AI. They don't use it all the time though so I guess They just did it's for when they make a slight error.

Well, i'm very mad at myself (thanks to my persistence to make the stupid F1 videos good, lol) I didn't get nearly as much practicing in as I would have liked.
I apologize in advance if I cause any accidents!

I'll apologize in advance too, hahha
I invited Y22, but he already had family plans.

That was another great bit of fun! I'm really enjoying these cars. Here I thought I was going to be racing myself trying to beat my best lap time in last but ended up getting a 3rd place finish and what I'd consider to be 4th or 5th after the problems.
Hammer's loss of power, pit strategy "F U"s from his crew, and the penalty/disqualifications, the problems in general with this game are getting quite frustrating to say so the least. I believe when I ran Fuel Mix 1 I was still using up more gas than in Mix 3. The weather changes and way the car reacted seemed real enough to me, although I don't use any of the telemetry on screen and I only know what my current and best lap times are from Sim Dashboard. I'd like to apologize again for almost causing an accident with Micko and Hammer during blue flag conditions, it took me about 3 quarters of the race to finally understand the breaking points and the best time to let the leaders pass/overtake etc.
Anyways, the 2 or 3 wreaks I was involved in were crazy awesome (I rolled once when me and Hurt MaGurt collided lmao) and I can't wait to see Shneeb's rocket launch spin from every possible angle! I'd probably be in the hospital room recovering, and probably out for weeks if my accidents were real! Rubbins' Racin' after all, In America

Yeah that was a great bit of fun, while it lasted for me. Can't wait to see that replay too. can't imagine how a tire rub in the wall could cause so much kaos! At least I was leading for a while, and that never usually happens, haha.

Not sure I’m a convert to Oval racing..... a bit boring. My pace was 2 to 3 secs off the front runners but was running comfortably in 3rd place when I didn’t slow down enough going into the pits after 88 laps and was disqualified

Pretty poor race for me overall, qualified in P7 almost 2 seconds slower than the Pole time, after a series of shunts and pit stops for damage repair I was running last when coming into T1 with Pete in tow, we saw Shneeb on his roll hoop, I went high to avoid and Pete went low and we came together on the other side and I ended up like Shneeb, without any way to put the car back on its wheels I retired on lap 47. I’m glad the event was enjoyable and we had a good showing of support from everyone. Onwards to Watkins Glen which should be another exciting race.

Well I really enjoyed that. In free practice I was struggling with pace even saying it to Dave then I boxed reinstalled my set up a boom back in the game. In qualifying I thought I’d be settling for P2 or 3 with Hammer and Niblips seemingly trading good times then out of nowhere with no tow and 7 odd mins to go I put in a pole worthy time. For me the race was going pretty well till I looked at my data going into turn 3 (stupid) into the wall I went. After repairs I went about catching the pack and un lapping myself and getting my self back into the top 4 behind Shneeb when I saw him tap the wall between 1 and 2 and he went skyward. Once the safety car had been called I boxed as not to lose more time (free stops are the best) once all sorted I ended up P2 with Niblips in P1 and Hurt between us at the restart they pulled away as I struggled getting my tyres up to temp but once going I got past Hurt (he might of stopped) and then started hunting Niblips down when I hit turn 3 again forcing me to stop again though it was a much shorter stop. From there short of a small battle with Micko I pretty much stayed in P2 in my last stint the car came alive and I seemed to gain over a second a lap on Niblips to bring the gap down to under a minute on track but I’d lost around 5-10 seconds to him on my last service. Gutted I didn’t win but all in all it wasn’t a bad run and looking forward to the Glen. Really looking forward to both Texas and Daytona. Well done Niblips on your win and well done everyone as there was no shouting or arguing even when the inevitable shunt occurred. It was also nice to hear the retired guys discussing what the were seeing on the race monitor.

Yeah, that replay viewing was very interesting to watch. I could actually imagine it being quite useful in comparing actual race data, especially gearing set ups and RPM rates.

Really enjoyed the first 55 laps and my car setup was just about perfect. Good pace on a full tank and then really coming into its own as the fuel burnt off. After losing time to Rich and Karl at the start when battling Hurt through the first corners I was having masses of fun closing the gap down by a tenth or two each lap until passing Karl following his coming together with Dave into turn 1. Then I set about making up the time to Rich which went up to just over 3 seconds due to my having to get off the throttle when getting past Karl as he righted his car. He started to struggle as the stint went on and I was closing quickly although lost a bit of time lapping one of the other guys. Then on my in lap for the first stop he lost out coming out of turn 3 and I took the lead and pitted. Thinking I was on for a nice quick stop having picked up no damage apart from the engine which I was not going to repair so I was confused when the repair bar started moving.. lost me about 30 extra seconds but still exited the pits in the lead with a 4 second gap to Karl. I was flying once back up top speed and quickly opened up the gap to over 7 seconds but then realised that my tyres had not been changed, no biggie I thought as I knew from practice that I could make them last a second stint. Until I then spotted that my crew had also not filled up the tank, only giving me about 20 litres WTF!! Really screwed over.. who had paid my boy's off lol. Anyway, I carried on until I was on my last couple of litres and pitted again making sure to manually set my stop parameters.
This time all went fine and I rejoined in 4th place but on the lead lap so plenty of time to make up difference. Fairly quickly I was up into 2nd place and chasing Karl down. Made up a second in very short time and with the lead down to just over 6 seconds came the start of the end for me when Pete overturned his car. I had closed down on Dave and was within 2 seconds of lapping him again when we came around turn 2 for the second time with Pete's stricken car still in place.. why the hell that didn't get removed I don't know!! Dave went high while I went low, he clipped the outside wall and bounced straight down right in my path and I had no way to avoid a straight hit into the side of his car and then bounced off head first into the wall. Pretty much race over at that point. I hobbled back round to the pits and sat waiting forever for the repairs to be made, almost 2 and a half minutes in the end!! By the time I got back on track I was almost 4 laps down :/
As soon as we got going from the caution I knew all was not right as the pack pulled away from me at a rate of knots and my car was understeering like a boat. My lap times were about 6+ seconds a lap down and I was struggling badly to keep the car out of the walls. I ended up pitting 3 more times after this and after the final one the car at least felt somewhere close to how it started and I was in the 41's and 42's for the last 30 laps of the race. Much slower than I would have been at this stage but at least I felt like was racing again rather then trundling around in a milk float :/
Massively disappointed with the result as I definitely had the car and pace to go for the win here but overall have to be content to pick up points in a race that easily could have ended after that big shunt.
I'm away for the next round so miss my second race of the season but think I'm back for the following race at Texas.

What a race indeed. This win is dedicated to Peter, who helped me out with the setup early on in practice when i was struggling. Thanks!
Was surprised with an early lead in the quali session. Then my TM beat me by 2 thousands of a second so i went for another run and found a little more time, but not enough to beat Rich.
The race start was ok. In the formation lap you can see in my video (40min mark) that i received two 5 second penalties for changing position when Rich slowed down a lot. I'm just glad those penalties didn't come into play at the end of the race. When the flag finally flew i held position behind Rich. His pace was good and i did find myself getting a slight run on him here and there, but i didn't have enough overspeed to get by. After a few failed attempts i decided just to follow and try to get him at the pit stop. On lap 16 we came up to the back of Lemar. Rich got by but i had some contact with him (51min mark) that caused me to pit early....which i didn't mind because in my practice races i knew a 3 stop race was going to fall short by about 10 laps and we were past the 10 lap mark so i was still good to make just 4 stops and have a solid race.
Fixed the damage, refueld and got fresh tyres, and rejoined in P6 about a minute and 10 seconds behind the leader. I had to let the leaders through a few laps later which put me 2 laps down then, but i knew they had to stop still as i was now off strategy. When Rich and Peter finally stopped together around lap 30 I passed them in the pits to get one lap back and was hoping to get around again before they both rejoined. Rich was in the pits for a long time and i got passed him for position on the next lap, but Peter got out ahead of me by about 4 seconds and then began to build the gap slowly. But then i heard Peter say he was short filled and the guys never changed his tyres. He had to stop again around lap 40 and i moved up into P1 briefly. I made my second stop a few laps later and rejoined the race in P2 but a few laps later Schneeb, the leader, stopped for tyres and fuel and i retook P1. Greg was close behind and pushing me at this point. He was only a couple seconds back but had to stop and PEter took his place. He was 8 seconds back but gaining fast.
Then, Lap 55 and Pete had his incident (1h20min mark) that eventually brought out the SC. In hindsight i probably should have called it when i went past him, but i wasn't sure of the procedure.... maybe we should write something up. At any rate, the SC was finally called and i slowed down. I still had plenty of fuel and tyres and with 48mins still in the race i knew if i stopped now i would still have to make 2 more stops before the end of the race so i opted to stay out and be the pace car.
On the restart i managed to keep the lead. Kept my head down and put in some more clean laps while Rich was putting pressure on. He stopped just before me and at my next stop I clouted the wall (1h41min mark) before the pit limiter line but only took minor front wing damage which the pit crew fixed before sending me off again. I thought for sure my little incident would mean Rich would overtake me but he must have had some damage too because i rejoined in P1 again. However, Micko was right there on my tail when i rejoined. He gave me something to think about for the next bunch of laps but then stopped again. Behind him was Rich who took his spot, but he was about 63 seconds behind which was just about enough time to make my last pit stop and come out in front, but that was still a while away.
Then Rich started gaining on me. In a few laps he had the gap down to 59seconds. then 58, 57. But he had another stop to make as well, so as long as i held it together and didn't make a mistake the win was decided. I do remember having a touch of the wall but it was just slight and didn't effect my car. My last stop was clean and i came home P1. Really pleased to finally get a full race in with this series. I had to quit out early to go out with my wife after taking Pole at the Long Beach race, had the crazy physics issue at CotA and and couldn't make the Indy road course race...so finishing this one was great.
