This really sums it up better then anything.. so no pitstops, magically changing tyres depending on the weather, no fuel depletion so no strategy at all. UNREAL.. if this was April 1st it would be funny!! Originally Posted by Nathan Bell Please let me clarify. It just means you don't have to pit to put the wets on, therefore no break in the racing action. And from dry to wet you'll be able to feel the difference as always. That was the main reasoning behind the decision from the Game Design Team. And I understand guys, change is hard to embrace. But it's resulted in a better product. Our simmers who've worked on this title love it also. But if it's not for you it's not for you. All we can do is be open and transparent, show you guys the ins-and-outs of the game, and you guys as our community and consumers have the right to make your mind up yourselves if it's not the product for you. Really would like to know which simmers they used for asking these questions? If there is one “simmer” on the world, who can say they don’t need to have strategy for pitstops, he/she should be laughed at. My guess, those “simmers” are board members of Codemasters.

If and when I do move to PC, I don't see any reason to stop playing PCars2 because of mods. I know there are a lot of mods for Assetto Corsa and it would be fun to re-create an old circuit if I had the right software.

That is incredible. How out of touch with your fans, and what racing is, can you be. So basically they decided that pitstops were the most difficult part of programming to get right, so they got rid of them. I'm dumbfounded.

I've been looking over at a lot of the chat about this and joined the pCars discord to see what is happening in there. Twitter is awash with negativity around the news and you would think they must be deeply concerned right now but it depends on what their analytics have told them. They must have information that has pointed them in this direction but for the life of me I can't understand how. The comments like "don't judge until you've tried it, we are sure you'll change your mind once you have..." just are so out of place. No serious racer is going to fork out money for this when there is no way to get a refund if it turns out to be as bad as it sounds. The thought of automatically changing tyres when the conditions change just makes me cringe. It's so far removed from what the game is now that it is hard to take it seriously.

I'm almost convinced this is just 100% guerilla marketing by SMS/Codies. Get their entire audience pissed off and then a week before release, "Just kidding. Pit stops, tires, and damage have all been improved." lol

I've been secretly hoping that too, I don't see how you can have any kind of Endurance distance racing without any Pits Strategies etc etc. But I'm not convinced that this new release is going to be anywhere near good enough for our needs, judging by most of the social media the majority of the sim racing community aren't too thrilled with it either, they may have really shot themselves in the foot.

Any questions relating to endurance racing and damage are avoided. The target audience is more towards the shorter esport style racing. They are definetly trying to capture the attention of the Forza crowd above all else.
If there were assurances that this was just another arm to their portfolio and that the next release would cater for the more serious racers I would be more able to accept the move. I doubt I would buy it though. However, my real concern though is even if that were to be highlighted if this is a successful release who's to say they wouldn't just throw in the towel on realism and sick with the simpler more lucrative direction.
There's very little that I have read that makes me think that this is a good move.

Saw this and thought it was a good indication of the amount of negative feedback "Hi i'm Ian Bell, CEO of my money. I love money, making that sweet, succulent net worth. Mmmm, any day now, the bitches will be lining up to ring my bell. I also really need this expensive surgery to remove my head from being stuck deep inside my anal cavity. Did I mention money?" Even if pitstops, tyres and fuel is added later on I don't think I would buy it

Yep.. pretty accurate summation of what we are all thinking. When you see it in black and white and read out for you it really does make you shake your head and wonder what on earth they were thinking!!

Automobilista 2 has a chance of coming to console, supposedly. Would be nice to see that announced for next gen. Somebody has to step into this market if PC games are still forever away from cross platform for next gen.

SMS leased them the rights to use their game engine so it may be the pCars3 we were hoping for but there is no console news around it yet so if that is to come it's a long way off.

Granted, ACC came out of thin air. Bare minimum I figure is even if they have to scramble and release something barebones, it will be at least as functional as ACC.lol

Latest pCars blog.. it's all about the upgrades!! What was it they said was a main reason for removing the realistic elements like tyre wear, fuel, pit stops and damage.. oh yeah so you can concentrate on the actual racing. And yet this blog only talks about the crazy upgrades you can bolt onto your car and not a jot about the racing!! I can't help but feel there is a level of hypocrisy in this. Read blog 1 and then blog 3 and you will find that they are poles apart from each other, so much so that you would think they were talking about two very different games!! www.projectcarsgame.com/three/news/developer-blog-3/

We've been kind of following each other on the official forum as well- I have no idea what they're trying to do. And the driving model does look good, it really does, but then they go ruin it by trying to outdo the FM and GT franchises- which they absolutely can't. Those games are based around car count, which SMS can't hope to compete on. And this upgrade system, Forza (and the GT series was like this as well, last I played it) is really a game that forces you to figure out some magical car and upgrade combination, work out an exploit tune which would never work IRL, and go dominate, and even Turn 10 took some steps to reduce that with their division system. And here's SMS, out to try and outdo them...
There's a huge disconnect happening between two distinct groups here, one side is a fan of cars, and the other side (this is us, obviously) is a fan of MOTORSPORT, and that's where all the trouble begins. Hell, I wouldn't consider myself a "sim racer," but what I am is a massive fan of MOTORSPORT. I don't read magazines about cars, I read RACER, and Motorsport. I follow IndyCar, MotoGP, WSBK, sports cars the world over, off road truck and motorcycle racing, I spend way too much time studying all of this. I know enough about cars that I work in the auto industry, but I can't find passion in what really is nothing more than a cynical attempt by a manufacturer to separate someone from a sizable chunk of money in exchange for some mass produced...thing. It's great that some group who just loves cars now has yet another game to collect cars and customise them but it really seems that we have been forgotten. And all of their blathering on about the racing being better- they're clearly delusional. And their new mod system is going to make it even worse, with people doing exactly what they do in Forza, those with the time to figure the exploits will have an advantage over those who don't. And the aliens will win by even larger margins, and tier 3 drivers like myself will still be tier 3 drivers.

Ah ok who are you on their forums? It's just such a shame and caught most of us out of the blue. I had not been aware of Ian's reference to Shift back in 2018 otherwise I would have been far more prepared for such a big change in direction. I have the same concerns as you about the whole upgrade scenario and for someone like me that actually knows very little about cars all that chatter is a bit over my head and I am not really interested in making some road car perform like something it's not. I have no idea how that works in relation to the online racing. I can only guess/hope that you can still create your own lobbies and have races with real cars with like minded racers rather than all those souped up creations. My biggest gripe has been their attempts to sell it to us as something that it clearly is not. I don't know if you are on their Discord but it was a similar thing on there initially. Nathan Bell has been on there on and off and has been insistent that we will 'all' really enjoy what they have done with it. I just don't think they fully appreciate that removing the elements that they have dilutes the whole for us. It's not just about the racing alone but about the strategies that you have to employ in the current game to achieve success. Your point about the tiered racing and aliens is exactly what I have been saying. It completely removes the chances for people of lesser ability to compete. At the end of the day I guess we will all have our ideas on what we want from a game and they have clearly taken the decision that we are too small a market to warrant any further investment in. Whether they take the money from this one and look to give us something that we crave at a later date only time will tell but I think it is unlikely especially if this one is a big success.

I really enjoyed some aspects of Shift 2 Unleashed and we enjoyed some great races with it in a couple of series we ran using it but I'm really surprised that they have announced that direction as it wasn't a psrticularly popular game and certainly would appear from that to be a shift away from the more sim oriented (no but pun intended) direction the have always aimed for. This following quote is a bit of a contradiction in my view... “pCARS3 will be more of a spiritual successor to Shift, but with all of the sim goodness everyone appreciates… The key focus though is on fun and not biting off more than we can properly chew and digest.” I kind of think it makes it look like they will look to reduce some of the more advanced sim-like features if that quote is anything to go by.Oh wow!! I don't remember making this statement a8 months ago but boy hammer meet nail!!!!!
