We have a few things to discuss before the season get's too much closer and one of the items up for discussion is the distance of races we run. It has always been mine and Karl's preference to run this league as close to reality as possible and most were happy to run the full distance races when we got the league back up and running again a few years ago. However, I know some have mentioned the distance as being one of the possible reasons for the drop-off in numbers towards the end of last season so with that in mind we are looking for some feedback on this. The poll will run for the next two weeks.
Also, what is everyone's thoughts on a split into two season with season 1 being run with the current game and then when the new game comes out having the season from that point start afresh with the remaining tracks. We would likely end season 1 after Rnd 11 Hockenheim on July 28th or Rnd 12 Hungary on August 4th and then run with the new game once it is out. So the split would be either 11/10 or 12/9.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I think the returning guys opinions should be weighted more than mine, but my thoughts are (1) Have 1 whole 21 race season, not start new when 2019 arrives. (2) Do either ALL 50% or ALL 100%, I don't know how you determined that in the past but I feel like all should be the same distance.

We used to run 50% races but felt it didn't give enough weight to strategy which is very important in F1 these days so for the 2017 season we went with a bit of a mix with the more classic races (Catalunya, Silverstone, Monza, Spa, Suzuka, Interlagos, Abu Dhabi) set at 100% distance.
We;l see what the general feeling is and make a decision based on that.

I would prefer the races to be all one or the other as well. 50% is just to short though, and as Peter says it doesn't allow for much strategy. The 50% races all tend to be one pit stop races, and if you fall behind a little bit you have very little chance of getting back in the race. Where as with the 100% distance races if you have an incident early on there is still a chance to get back in the race with a smart strategy.
Unfortunatly, if there aren't a lot of drivers in the race, it can make 100% races really boring....
I think if we end up with a small grid 50% distance might be better, even though i don't enjoy them nearly as much as 100% distance.

Yeah I think Distance is gonna depend on the numbers really, if we don't have a lot, like Karl I'm not really a fan, but 50% would be better, if we have a lot then 100% is what I'd vote for.
Also not sure how I feel about splitting the season in 2 like that.

Cheers Mitch. Definitely 100% is the aim but we just wanted to give the opportunity for guys to share their views on it after it was questioned last season. It may well be that we take a race by race decision depending on the grid size but i'm hopeful that we will get the numbers that we had for some of last year and keep them this time to the end. The preference would always be to run one season but having a split was suggested at the end of last season as it was felt one reason we lost drivers was because of the seasons length so we've put it out there to test the waters. So far it's 0 for 2

Hey Guys
I'm pulling out of the racing for this next season. I've packed up my wheel and posted it for sale on E-Bay. Incase anyone is interested: Thrustmaster TX Leather edition (a month or so over 1 year old), pedals, F1 2018 and my Elgato HD60 capture card.
I want to learn a musical instrument this year, and my business is taking a turn for the much much better. The instrument knowledge will help my business, so that hour at the end of each day for F1 will shift to the instrument and lessons.
It's been great though. I thought I'd come back strong for this year but even with the winter testing races my heart wasn't in it which is why I didn't turn up. I done a few laps around Auz last week but I'm not excited to go back and tweak and really put the time in like I did.

Gutted to hear that Wes.. had come to consider you one of those we always could rely on each Sunday. But real life as always cones first so good luck in your future ventures and if at any time you do get the racing itch again come back here and seek us out again. Hopefully, we'll still be around. Cheers.

Anyone know if they've sorted the tyre temp issue yet cos that'll determine what distance i vote tbh As far as I am aware nothing has been changed. There was still a debate on the forums last I checked as to whether there was a problem as there were as many people saying there was not as there were saying otherwise.

It may be a short season if end up with the issues like towards the end of last year when people were doing like 5 laps out of 25 in a stint and they were gone tho.

Tyres won't get fixed now, they're full on with 2019 no time or resources for 2018 anymore.

Shame to hear that Wes. Was looking forward to a full season against you.
As far as this season goes, I enjoy the realism and varying strategy behind the 100% races. I would vote to continue that. Also, a possibility behind the drop in some of the numbers towards the end was due to the real F1 season behind over and us having to finish the added track races (Germany and France) after the season ended, just ends up extending an already long season. Maybe find a way to put in additional races somewhere in the middle of the season instead.
I think keeping the season as one long season is the better option. I feel it has a better flow following the real season with our own. And makes the battle in the championship more realistic. Though I wouldn't be horribly opposed if we did try the split seasons, curious how it would work the long winter break. Just my thoughts.

Cheers Alec. The reason for those two races taking part at the end of the season was because at the time of the real French GP we didn't have the track in the game due to it only coming out in the 2018 game in August. I think Hockenheim was bolted onto the end due to lack of numbers when it was originally supposed to be raced. But yes having them post real season probably didn't help although TBF they were not the only poorly attended races.

Just quick... Are we still doing the four dropped results? Cause if we're taking suggestions now, I vote for that to be booted into the sun where it belongs lol

Hasn't been discussed up to now Mitch. With so many races each season now I am probably even more of the opinion that it's a good idea so people are not disadvantaged by not being able to attend every race or through having the odd connection issue, etc. But like everything if there's a strong opinion on it we are open to listening.
