So, I completed a very trying test race last night online with 14 AI(set at 105). It's a very strange issue this old xbox steering thing. With only a few cars on track the steering is very forgiving and the car can be pushed hard and not lose footing very easy. You can correct steering inputs and go full throttle without much care. The Red Tyres start to make my wheel shake after 4 or 5 laps though and they become undriveable as a result. The Black tyres are the only answer to doing a full fuel stint. The lap times are poorer but at least you don't have to stop every 5 laps.
Alternatively, when I increased the AI numbers, the steering was on a knife edge much like it was for me and others in the Willow Springs race. I think the one saving grace here in COTA though is that there aren't too many high speed corners...that's where all the steering issues had the largest consequences at Willow. Maxing out the on throttle Diff seemed to help with the steering a little last night. And just like in Willow Springs, the Red tyres did not cause my wheel to shake at all. They also lasted super long, no issues with tyre wear at all. In my first full stint on the Reds last night the worst tyre was only worn 13%...meaning it still had 87% life left. Having said that though, the steering is really a problem. In the first 2 laps of the race I had 3 spins caused by the steering sensitivity. One slightly wrong move sent the car spinning easily and put me down 30 seconds to the leader after those 2 laps. I eventually got a handle on things and had some decent laps. Had a couple more spins and one crash before the end of the race, but finished it in P3, so that's promising.
I think the biggest hurdle though is not knowing what type of issue there will be on Saturday.... will the steering be forgiving and the Red tyres useless, or will the tyres be fine and the steering useless.... OR will it change halfway through the race from one to the other..... ugh.

Thanks Tyler, It's much appreciated but i can't take your money. You know what Karl i'd say the same thing. You've proven to me that you're more than deserving for an X so it wasn't hard for me to offer at least something. I'd do the same for everyone here that race with us as often as you do. If you come up short by 10 Canadian bucks just hit me up, consider it as your hired driver fee or something like that lol. I would like to race you at your best. In the meantime I think donating to this site would be a good option too

Did some practicing last night. I feel like I’m chasing grip issues but I’ve been running too high of pressure again. I’ve been shooting for 2 bar hot. Looks like F1 cars run between 1.1 and 1.3 bar hot. This should bring my tire temp up a bit too and perhaps those corners won’t be quite as slippy. I’m seeing a potential of 1.51s but typically in 1.53s right now. Wouldn’t say my line is optimal yet though.

I'm running 1.11 on the front and they were staying quite cold in the overcast conditions. Not sure what to do to heat them up more....I think if i go much lower they'll just get all spongy in the corners. I did manage a 1:47.1 in the session though. i was quite surprised myself to see the time come up. Makes me wonder if there is some timing glitch that went on.....

I've managed to do a few hours of testing and I've found some laptime in the car but I can safely say that I'm no where near where I want to be, understeer is the biggest issue especially through the Esses but I'm gradually dialling the car in. The best time I clocked was a mid 51 but I think I can get inside 1:50 with a bit more spannering on the car.
Weather looks like its going to be cloudy and overcast on raceday so tyre temps shouldn't be an issue but graining and understeer could be a problem.
Should be another great race but its such a shame that Karl and Rich are having issues.
Cheers
Dave

I'm struggling badly here. Tough week so not had the sort of prep time I would have liked and haven't even started a race yet other then the short one we held for practice last week.
I've managed low 1:48's but have struggled to keep the tyre temperatures down which has meant a higher tyre deg than I would like to see. Also inconsistency between sessions has plagued me. One session I can feel ok and the next I'm all over the place. Consequently I've been chasing a solid setup but have pretty much gone back to the stable default now after getting stuck in the setup changing loop.
Not expecting much out of tomorrow but you can never tell and if I can keep it on the tarmac who knows.

Don't forget that if you're not in the UK start times will be one hour later than usual because the UK doesn't start Daylight Savings Time until March 31st.

Hi guys, I’m going to put myself as a out as I’m just unable to get in filling into the steering of the car on road course. I’ve explained this to both Pete and Dave but I just can’t keep the car on the track at any speed which puts me in the position of ruining other people races which is not what I’m about. I will keep trying to sort the issue but I believe it’s a old Xbox issue rather than anything else. I will if there’s spaces Still take part in the oval rounds as it’s is not such a issue and will still be about for stewarding duties.

It's a very odd issue we are facing Rich, Try putting your on throttle diff to 90. Also try minimum steering inputs. I find i'm not moving the wheel very much at all through the higher speed corners. I've been practicing with lots of AI all week, meaning i've had some good laps logged with this strange steering issue, but come tonight it might all change again...if there aren't enough people on track the steering may revert...I'll just have to see, and play it by ear.

It does seem so hit and miss with so many factors playing a part in what happens. The original box was just stretched to the limit and the last couple of patches seem to have made it worse because those steering issues were not apparent back when I had the original box. The physics deterioration when too much was being asked of the box was the biggest issue for me back then.

Struggling with a chest infection again so not sure how long I'll last tonight guys. I'll probably be limited on comms as well otherwise i'll be coughing and spluttering over everyone 😖. If I drop out suddenly you'll know why.
Anyway, good luck. Hope you all have a good clean race.

Another tough race tonight and about twice as long as last year's event. Congrats Darren on the double for the second time in a row, insane pace. So last season, Shneeb108 disappeared to the moon and was replaced by Darren for this year I see lol.
Once the cloud cover came in the rear became a little slippery and my pace dropped off a bit. I spun out a couple times from stupid mistakes and for awhile there I thought you had me Pete near the end. You would have gotten away with it too if not for your meddling pit crew, and their stupid dog!
Forgot to save the in game replay, my daughter was just getting home from her grandparents as we were finishing up so I was a bit distracted. The game would have only saved about half of it anyway.

Oh man that was mega tough tonight. My whole body is aching after close to 3 hours of racing 😵. Really didn't think I would last the distance but the adrenaline certainly helped on that front.
Well done everyone who made it and good to see everyone sticking it out to the end. Would have been nice to see more on the grid add it's disappointing to see only half of those signed up making it for round 2.
Gutted at having to make triple pit stops after stint 2 as that robbed us of what was a really fun battle with Tyler. Doubly disappointing having just managed to nip ahead of him after he spun on our inlap 👎. I did enjoy clawing back over 30 seconds of the 2 minute 20 second gap that my pit stop mess created but it would have been so much more fun to be racing for the position.

That was quite a struggle. Great track though and congrats to the winners!
I’ll be missing the next one unfortunately as I’ll be on a riding trip.

Another disappointing race for me, I couldn’t find any sort of rythm or anything like a competitive laptime.
But congratulations to Daz on another dominant win with a stunning Pole lap and a great race, well done to everyone who participated and managed to finish a very gruelling and challenging race distance.
I was in the pits after 1 lap for repairs and after that I had a series of shunts which left me in P6 and 7 laps from the lead lap, after rejoining the race from my 1st lap off I found myself behind Greg and we had a long range battle until Greg had to pit as I began to push harder I had another shunt and that was the story of my race.
Looking forward to TMS and Longbeach after that so hopefully I’ll improve and give you boys a race 😉
Cheers
Dave

Thanks guys, and congrats to everyone who finished, felt like an endurance race, just 9mins shy of 2hours. Had 2 unexpected trips to the pits during the race, one after only a handful of laps when I got caught on a kerb in T5 and went sliding into the wall, front wing off, and then towards the end of the race came out of T7 to find a sign in the middle of the track which took another front wing off. Looking forward to my first Oval race in 2weeks, had my first experience of oval running in a quick test with Dave after the race and certainly found it more of a challenge then I was expecting, a few big shunts, certainly more to it then just turning left, especially in traffic.

🤔🤔🤔 F1 @ Circuit of the Americas = 56 Laps IndyCar @ Circuit of the Americas = 60 Laps 😦 IndyCar is about 18 seconds slower a lap there than F1 which = we're all battle hardened bosses💪👨✈️🤜 I am damn proud to serve (race) with each and everyone of you lol. For reals
