Gents,
After our Indycar Championship finishes, we have some ideas for 1 or 2 single race events that we could possibly run annually. Firstly, we have planned a Le Mans race in the Group C prototypes, if there’s enough support we could have a multi class grid with GT cars from the same period. Provisionally we will run the race over a 3 hour period with accelerated game time so we have the full Le Mans experience.
In a change to the usual Quali procedure we’ll have a Qualifying week leading up to the race weekend, at this stage I’m planning on a day and night qualifying and the starting grid will be an average of both times, for daytime qualifying we can use the Time Trial in game and for the night time we can either set some criteria like time of night etc and people can post screenshots of both their day and night times. Or we could run a qualifying event the week before the race where we run a practice session then a day followed by a night session. Any feedback or suggestions will be welcome.
Cheers
Dave

I've created a sign-up thread here consoleracing.boards.net/thread/556/lemans-signso please add your details there if you are interested in taking part in this. Once we have an idea of numbers we will know whether this is a viable event and can get into the nuts and bolts of dates, times, rules and car selections, etc.

Pretty psyched about this. We don't race many cars with roofs here 😂. I know plans are being finalized still, but what are you thinking about the Group C cars? Will all 4 "LM" spec cars (Mercedes, Nissan, Jaguar, Porsche) be available or will any be excluded? Or have you not even determined that. Or is that top secret?

As long as the performance is fairly even then we’ll make all the Grp C cars available, I’m also hoping to have enough people to run some GT cars as well for a fairly realistic Le Mans race experience 🙂

All depends on numbers Greg. There would have to be a significantly bigger grid to enable us to run different classes otherwise the racing will become even more fragmented than we see in the one class series we have already been running.

I say run the qualifying a week or the day before the race. The times people set in time trials will probably be a little different and inaccurate in the race.

I think as long as everybody has to do the same it should all be fair. Doing the two different modes as suggested and averaging them for the final grid will make everything fair and even. The problem with trying to run seperate quali and race sessions is it would be virtually impossible to get everyone together. Look how difficult it is to get everyone together just for the race lol.

I completely agree Pete, if we run the daytime qualifying in TT then the conditions for everyone will be the same, then for the nighttime Quali we can use the Private Practice and set the conditions, time and date then drivers can take screenshots and post them in the forum thread, we’ll take both day and night Quali times and announce the grid a few days before the race 👍🏻

Will it be a set amount of time/laps each of us is allowed to qualify for day and night?
Should the AI be set to on as to put more rubber on the track? I've never seen a qualifying session for the real WEC races so I don't know how they actually do it, excuse my ignorance🤪.

You can run as many laps as you want Tyler, record each of your fast laps with a screenshot then submit your fastest lap before the qualifying finishes, as for the AI question I’m of the opinion that we don’t allow times set with AI as it won’t provide a consistent platform. So only set times for the night Quali in Free Practice in a solo run and daytime times will be set on Time Trial which again will give the same conditions for everyone 🙂

Which version of the circuit do you all want to run? The Vintage circuit is accurate as far as the Mulsanne Straight is concerned but the Porsche Curves aren’t on that particular circuit, so we can run the modern circuit with the chicanes on the straight but with the Porsche Curves or run the Vintage with the Straight but without those exciting and challenging corners, thoughts?
Cheers

We might get more people willing to join us if we use the current version as not everyone is willing to pull the DLC trigger. Personally I like the current version better too.

That's good to hear. Yes I approved one the other day but nothing from them on the forums up to now.
I see you've been doing some testing.. how's it looking? I still haven't managed to do anything yet but have taken the 72D around the track a few times so at least I'll be familiar with it.

It’s proven difficult to get any meaningful testing as I’m still on the controller but I’ve done some preliminary setup work and hopefully that’ll transfer over when I’m back behind the wheel 🙂
