I actually increased the wing to get my better times. The lower setting just wasn't working for me and felt like I was in the edge of losing it at every turn, and often did lol. I'll try again now i've had a bit of time there but suspect I'll be sticking with a higher setting.

Haven't set on a wing yet either. Running AI at 100/100, anywhere from 4 to 7 works. Consistency and finishing the race will be the key.
Since V8 Supercars are standing start instead of rolling, it may be a good idea to have penalties etc on for this race. There are also some places, particularly the first "optional" section at the top of the mountain where someone could blow through there with no repercussions if there are no track cutting penalties.

Ugh. This place is a nightmare. My first test last night was poor. Couldn't get a clean lap in practice because i couldn't get the tyres up to temp before binning it. TT was a little better but i still struggled. best time of 2:15.5 i think, so i'll be at the back if i can make the race on Saturday.

Good point. If recent lobbies are indication, I expect there to be a lot of road blocks.lol 10 drivers last night and just 10 laps. With inevitable wrecks and early pits, half the race had back markers and traffic. It should be pretty exciting. One thing is for sure, turn 2 needs to be taken with a lot of caution on the first lap since tires and brakes will be less than optimal. Thomas pointed that out right before his car looked like it got hit by an rpg.lol

It is. Exactly how I felt during the F1 season.lol
Weight transfer is more pronounced vs open wheel. Trail braking is longer etc but the fundamentals are exactly the same. Open wheel has a much smaller margin for error when it comes to grip. The loss of traction and grip in GT type cars is more progressive. When an open wheel car loses grip, it is on a knife edge and it just snaps.
I may be on with Dave and Thomas a little later, come on in and we can do a private session.
That sounded a lot more kinky than it was intended.lmao

Also best to run without AI until you are comfortable and know the track. Last thing you need is getting rear ended because you brake earlier than the AI or have them power past you as you approach a corner and bump you off line. Once you are comfortable you can start adding the AI for some competition.

It takes the tyres roughly 3 to 4 laps to get up to racing temperature. I notice that if you drive it like it has Vintage tyres on for the first couple of laps you'll end up being faster than if you drive it normally. We'll probably be doing a V8 practice session tomorrow at 5est/10pm Uk time in place of our Vintage F1, open to whoever wants to join us

Greg and I had a good practice session in a public lobby with at least 2 randoms that stayed for a 15 lap race, with minimal contact with one another.
Greg did some mighty fine driving and held me off long enough for the win. We had our separate incidents and went for a box at the same time, had a small demolition battle for the entrance, and I came out on the hard compound.
We both found that the sweet spot for the downforce is 5 as we both could get into the 2:06s, 4 was too little on grip especially with hards on and I was 2 seconds a lap slower at that point. The main thing is that we were consistent pace wise and consistent on the track with eachother so I think we should have a great event come Saturday.

Nice, F1. Finishing the race is half the battle. Have ran into a couple stupid fast 2:00 drivers in lobbies, but they can't string together 5 laps without an incident.
Still tweaking tunes on my end. Down from 20 to about 10 I like.lol My TT tune is fast, but shyt for a race. Been doing fine with my base tune in lobbies and may run that unless Daz shows up. In which case, it's time for a "if yew ain't furst, yer last" setup.

I actually put in some effort last night for once and got down to a 2:02.751 (hot on your heels Sean ). There's clearly more to be had as per sub 2 minute times and I know I can go quicker than a 2:02, but stringing it all together for that perfect lap is hard work! Consistency is key as always and keeping close to the 2 minute mark for 48 laps or so will be extremely difficult... You know in Practice or Quali, you can pit and have another go, but the race is different and those extra couple of seconds a lap quicker will be eaten up very quickly if you bin it!

I got on for a quick attempt to set my quali time at around 1am last night after getting home but was just too knackered to get it done and failed to get in a decent clean lap. I am back at my daughters later until who knows when tonight so will have to upload my time from a few days ago which is someway off what I can hit after the practice session the other night. My attendance at the race is up in the air as things stand but i'll keep you posted as and when things are known.
