Smallest grid we've had, but still a good day of racing. Big Will had the fastest race lap by over a second, he's been doing really well.
That was my cleanest race in 4 or 5 races, eidn't want to lose a wheel and I achieved that goal.lol. Open wheel with full damage is extremely unforgiving, but everyone finished!
Q1 R1
Ran close with Will for the first quarter and he had a mishap, then up until the scheduled pit stop, Peter and I ran close enough to be in the mirror much of the time. His extended pit stop cost him (thanks, Peter), so I really just had to stay clean the rest of the race.
With Peter finishing 2nd, we have the next car/track selection and are looking at some pretty interesting options for possibly another race if there is enough excitement.

Despite the smaller grid I still enjoyed this and as a first experience with this car was pretty impressed.
Q4 R2
Quali I never really got my best lap together and twice fouled up what would have been my fastest lap by running slightly wide at Stavelot (the tightish right-hander before the long run down to Blanchimont) so negated that and the following lap each time. Would have been in the 2:01's with one of those laps I think. No idea why running wide at Stavelot costs you the following lap as well as it has absolutely no impact on the next lap. Anyway, 4th it was for me after Richard pipped me in the closing stages of the session.
Race Got off to a decent start and just kept it clean ending up following close behind Sean and Will. We all seemed on fairly even pace and I started to put a bit of pressure on Will around about the 3rd or 4th lap and then he got a bit scruffy on one lap before having a part spin on the exit of Les Coombes (I think..) and I was able to gain a place and set chase for Sean. We had a bit of back and forth with the gap but it was around 4 second for a while before I had my first slow down and dropped 4 seconds further back. As the pit stop approached the gap was hovering around the 8-9 second mark and I thought with a decent pit stop we could be in for a very nice battle over the second half of the race. With the extra quali session and then reforming of the grid I needed the loo and thought I could take the chance while my car was in the pits so as soon as I pulled to a stop I rushed to the loo and only then did it suddenly occur to me that in these cars they would probably re-fuel and change the tyres at the same time!! So the 25-30 second stop we had seen in previous races could be halved. Sure enough as I jumped back ion my chair my car was just sitting there waiting for me to get going again after an 11.2 second stop!! By the time I got going again and Sean came in for his stop the following lap the gap had grown to 28 seconds!! Damn!! that wee had cost me about 22 seconds Doh!!
That was pretty much race over at that point with that gap ahead too big to close and a lap up on those behind. I did start to try to push for a while to see if I could claw back any of that deficit but of course that brings errors and I picked up several slow downs as a result. After one of them allowed Will to unlap himself I had Richard right behind and decided to let him through so he could get on with his race with Will and by then the gap to Sean was approaching 40 seconds. From that point it was just a case of bringing the car home and not doing anything silly to risk the second place points.
Still a good nights racing, shame about the wee break spoiling the chances of a good race to the end between me and Sean but I think he would have had enough to still take the win anyway. Well done Will for the podium place and Richard for a good finish in your first race of the series.
We have a good combo on the cards for the next race providing there is enough interest still.
