Karl mentioned this update as well. Last update was also huge but was just an update to liveries as far as I could tell. This is the blurb for this update from Faya at Codies forums:- Hi all,
Patch 1.09 is now live on PS4 and should be live on Xbox and Steam soon. Please see the patch notes below to see what’s been updated in this patch.
Realistic performance can now be enabled in Leagues AI can now be disabled when using official cars in Leagues Skill rating rebalancing Safety rating rebalancing Balancing fixes for AI R&D progression in career Added additional support for Fanatec wheels Fixed an exploit on Time Trial in France Tyre compounds have been updated in Brazil, USA & Mexico Reduced off-track surface grip on approach to turn 12 in Brazil Various other fixes and stability improvements With this patch, we’ve made some balancing fixes for AI R&D progression in career. These adjustments will be more noticeable the earlier you are in your career mode playthrough. The fixes may not be as immediately noticeable if you’re in the later seasons of your career.
Please note that with the release of this patch, we’ll be resetting the leaderboards for Brazil, USA, USA Short and Mexico due to slower tyre compounds being available on these tracks. Leaderboards have also been reset on France due to some unattainable times being set as the result of a now fixed exploit.
A final note from us: a lot of you are asking about the Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon switch and whether we’ll implement this in-game. We are planning on making the changes as soon as possible and we’ll be working with Red Bull and Toro Rosso on this once they return from the summer shutdown.
We are continuing to track down and fix more bugs and we’ll have more information about any further patches soon.
Need help? Come and visit us in our Technical Assistance forums. Please be sure to check out the read me thread before posting. Something from this patch not working the way it should? Tell us in our patch discussion thread here. The forum post is here:- forums.codemasters.com/topic/41937-patch-notes-for-109-%E2%80%93-release-info-update-now-live-on-all-platforms/

5gb? Christ. Hopefully it fixes the shutdown bug 🙄 I have not seen much at all about this problem Mitch. The only ones related to cashing are on PC that I have found. You should post it on the forum in case it has not been picked up.

Who asked for this.... is this something that can be turned off in the options as it's not something that I think should be part of any realistic racing league!! Dealing with lapped cars is all part and parcel of racing.

On the forum
The lapped cars ghosting option is directly tied into the existing ghosting option. If the ghosting option is enabled for the league or lobby then lapped cars will ghost, likewise if this is disabled, cars will not ghost at all including lapped cars.

If the ghosting option is enabled for the league or lobby then lapped cars will ghost, likewise if this is disabled, cars will not ghost at all including lapped cars. This is where we will have to make a decision again about ghosted cars then. Typically we have ghosting turned on so that if people disconnect from the race and their car is taken over by an AI driver we do not have too much difficulty overtaking them. The way i see it with these changes, if we want to race with ghosting off then we need to change the AI level. They are defaulted at 41, which is slow. That makes them dangerous in the corners as it's easy to misjudge their braking speed and run into the back of them. If we increase the level, what level makes sense for everyone? 85? 90? Lower? Higher? The other option is to keep ghosting on and have the cars being lapped get ghosted....which i do not like. I would not vote for this option if it came down to it because it takes the realism out of it. Another thing to consider is whether or not lapped cars will suffer from penalties for ignoring blue flags? If i'm getting lapped and not slowing down because my car is going to ghost anyway i might get a blue flag penalty.

As a car who gets lapped.. my vote would be to turn ghosting off. I race offline at AI lvl 90 and tend to race the mid/back pack guys well in my Racing Point. My vote would be anything 90 to 100.

Keep in mind in our online lobbies the car performance is set to Equal, meaning all AI cars will perform at basically the same level. So essentially there would be no midfield AI. They could all potentially perform as Hamilton (for example). I think somewhere between 80-90 would be good, but we'll need to get an opinion form others as well. When i race offline i typically have the AI set to 100 and race as Bottas. Hamilton usually takes off like a shot and i struggle to keep his pace.

I'm definitely against ghosting lapped cars as that just takes something out of the race that should be there. However, like Karl said if the ghosted disconnected drivers cars are linked together with this new lapped cars option then we have a problem. I currently race against 90 AI which seems to be about the right level for me racing as Bottas.
These two things should definitely be treated very differently so I'm hoping there's a way to set them independently of each other.

I can't stand racing the AI and being able to just blast through them is a god send when someone's disconnected and I think it's unfair to then suddenly have to race them in the race as they're too unpredictable and in a tonne of corners they're horrifically slow, ESPECIALLY in S1 at COTA.
I'd vote to keep ghosting on, being actual people we can always just move out of the way still when being lapped, it's not difficult to do, with ghosting on or off, so I don't see how anything has changed.

Also what would happen if say Neal disconnected whilst behind me at Mexico, but the AI is faster than me and barges past, damaging my race and then has a thirty second gap up front by the time he got back in? Does he take the win? Cause that would be horseshit.

Just checked and it's definitely tied into the ghosting disconnected cars. You only have on or off which means if we leave ghosting on cars being lapped can be driven straight through. Total horshite!!
The only way we can do this is to prohibit driving through non-ai cars, with some sort of time penalty being added if it is ignored.
Imagine how off-putting it would be to be driving and suddenly have the lapping car drive right through you as you turn into a corner!!
I wish they would just leave well alone or at least give us control of it.

Another cock up codemasters , I see the positives around it for those that get taken out by the knobs that play the arse but it doesn’t help us, I say leave ghosting off as well, 95% off the time I recognise I have a leading car coming to lap me and do my best to move over, while being in a chat as well helps so no need for us to have ghost on it will just complicate things, granted if I crash out and my car is left as AI then of course this could be an issue but just set Ai to level 80-90 ...
That’s my view anyway..

It's always something with this game, isn't it....
As much as I don't want to have ghosting on i think it's probably the best thing to do. Trying to find an AI level to suit all in the league will not be easy. And the point made by Mitch only emphasizes that. I think it's great that if people disconnect through no fault of their own they are able to rejoin, but they should not benefit from it.
I agree with Peter that if we have to have it turned on then we need to make it clear that you are not to driver through a ghosted car unless you know for certain that it is an AI controlled car. And if you do so knowingly then we should add a penalty to the race results for that driver. Whether that's a time penalty or a position drop in the results could be debated. I think a position drop would serve as more of a deterrent than time added.

It's always something with this game, isn't it... And it's always gonna be something, since they've just announced they reupped the liscenes until 2025 with a possible 2027.
