I did about two hours last night. Right off you notice the frame rate is terrible. It took some time to get the wheel setup but I'm using 80% gain and 780 degrees. Did all my setup at Kyalami to lean the track. Boy is that a tricky little one and should provide some great racing. Everything else I did was online quick lobbies. Its a decent format with all the races being 20 minutes long which isn't bad. I was "Forza'd" off track by people using me as a brake, but that's public lobbies for ya. The one clean race I had I was in 2nd having a good battle with 1st and 3rd and the lobby crashed with 3 minutes left in the race.

I haven't looked at multilayer yet so is there no way to get in a lobby where we can race together? It's just pot luck who gets in? So just sprint races but ehat about assists, can you select what assists you want to race people with or are all lobbies just lumped together?

Peter the only multiplayer option to start is random lobbies. You need to improve your rating (offline?) to be able to access the other part of multiplayer. I'm not sure about assists. I had all mine set to the highest level except Auto-Clutch was on so mine was set to Custom. I don't think it made any mention of what the lobby was set to.
Does anyone know how to tune the brake pedal? Im not sitting at the game but there was a slider called brake tone or something like that. I sort of felt like I wasn't pressing the brake fully. Of course there is no place to calibrate this that I could find. I moved that slider from 1.0 to 1.25 but not sure I noticed any difference.

Only just had a chance to get on this game and I’m definitely disappointed at the quality and the issues with using a wheel. I can’t seem to get anywhere near the level of ffb that I would want, it all feels a bit numb. I hope they address these issues over the coming days/weeks and don’t just ignore the players

I got a bit of a better shot of it earlier today. Once you're used to the graphics and feel of it, it's pretty good. The sounds are excellent but I'm struggling with braking still. Has anyone started Career mode yet?
The issues are still very present though and disappointing to be there for release.

Had a couple of hours with the game just now and got the wheel working. Overall driving impressions are not that great tbh, I'm not sure what to make of it. The ffb is underwhelming and tbh I get better feedback from pcars 2. Tried almost all the cars and it seems you have to set a different steering lock for each car, as the in-game wheel does not match up to the angle of input for my wheel. I went from 720 to 540 to 510 in some cases, very bizarre.
The feel in the brake is not great either, not as good as the F1 games or pcars. I'm not consciously noticing the framerate most of the time, although of the two tracks I did, Catalunya and Silverstone, Silverstone was pretty blurry in places but Catalunya was ok.

The same old problems unfortunately. We are left in the dark about setting up the wheel and it's clunky interface just makes it more of a trial to get something that you like. It seems they have made very limited attempt to make the game console friendly and are just leaving us to work it out for ourselves. Same 'ol same ' ol' unfortunately.
I'm hoping my second attempt at it later will leave me feeling better about it than last night. It was in the rain so that perhaps impacted the performance but considering it was only my car on track it really is very worrying how poor it was graphically. I b only imagine how it will seem with other cars on track.

Well i've just finished session number 2 and decided to try the multiplayer side of the game. I got put into a Silverstone lobby running 10 minute quali and 10 minute race. I didn't seem to have any choice in what I got but I just stuck with it. Same wheel problem again so unplugged it and then it was working ok but they really have to sit that one out.
The session itself was ok, I joined partway through quali and hit taken out on my first lap so not a great start. The race start was your typical public lobby affair and after taking my time and picking my way through a few cars was suddenly punted off track going into maggotts and rejoined sooner back. I did have some fun with a few drivers and finished the race without further incidents but once the transition to night time came it was a bit confusing. I had no lights despite setting automatic for them and my mirror was completely dark as well as no other cars seemed to have any lights on.. very odd. Do lights work in the game? I decided to stay in due another session and had a decent quali but at the start was pointed from behind yet again!! That's why I have always avoided public lobby racing!! Again I did still have some fun once the wreckers were out of the way but still the lights problem was there. This time I had set my lights to manual and mapped a button for them but it made no difference at all..
Initially the game seemrd mega stuttery and I didn't think I would be able to get past that but once the racing got going I did find I was enjoying it and the frame rate became a little less of an issue. No question it is poorly optimised but I am more hopeful tonight that there are possibilities with it but it needs a lot of work to make it console friendly.
They need to improve the general interface massively as it's clearly not good for pad and wheel users. Everything is set for mouse use.
There were some messages kept popping up on my screen during the session but they flashed off too quickly for me to know what they were about.
I will try a single player race tomorrow to see how that feels and give me a chance to play around with the settings a bit more. I did briefly look at the setup screen and it looks pretty much the same as AC and equally as clunky as the rest of the have in so far as it's very unintuitive to use.

This is just going to be a bit of a dump of information from my experience the last two days sorry if it's a mess.
I have to say after the awful first impression from yesterday everything since then has been phenomenal for me. I don't know if I'm just lucky and not having issues or what. I still have to do the bullshit to get my wheel/pedals working (obviously since no patch) which is insane to have to do on a racing sim. I haven't done any multiplayer since I really dislike public lobbies in racing games but my quick look through the menus makes it look like at some point you can choose which lobby you want so it would be possible to race together but obviously will likely lead to randoms in it as well or having to try multiple times to get everyone in. Obviously private lobbies are ideal but it could be usable until they're put them in.
Really curious what view everyone is running? I switched to the one without the wheel and I found it better than the other 2 cockpit views and picked up 1.4 seconds on my best time at Kyalami on my second lap using this view. Could just be me being more used the game or it might just be an FOV improvement not really sure. Was able to come close to this lap time in a 10 minute race against the AI as well. I haven't been doing any push/qualy laps just trying to be consistent and trying out different cars.
My thoughts on the individual cars:
I've found myself going back to the Ferrari and the Nissan with the Ferrari being my favorite at the moment. I find the Nissan a bit understeery in high speed corners but it's manageable. If I had to make a choice on a car to drive it would be the Ferrari since it's so stable but I'm only about .1-.2 a lap slower in the Nissan on the tracks I've driven both.
Put some decent time in the Mclaren as well, I was told it is an easy car to drive but still reasonably fast which I found to be true. I'm about .5 seconds a lap slower with it than the Ferrari and with more time I think I could bring that time down a couple tenths.
I tried the Audi for the first time tonight and I thought on my out lap it was going to be something I would drive a lot but after a few laps I found it was changing between under and over steer in different corners and that's not something I'm interested in managing.
Aston Martin, Porsche, BMW, Lamborghini, and Mercedes I didn't really care for these for different reasons. I was really excited for the Porsche and thinking it would be "my car" but I just haven't liked it. Will probably give it another chance at some point though.
I haven't used the Bentley, Lexus, and Honda yet but I've read the Bentley is actually a pretty good car on this. Will definitely be using these 3 the next time I play.
What cars have you all been using? Also I've only been using the preset setups mainly the Aggressive one. Is anyone doing any big setup changes yet?
Edit: One thing I forgot to mention after reading your post Pete. I ran a couple races that started at dusk and went to night and the auto lights went on for me. Maybe the difference is single player vs multiplayer? I did find I noticed a lot of pop in graphics, mostly at the rear end of the car I was following. Mainly noticed badges on the rear would pop in and out depending how far I was and it didn't have anything to do with what you would reasonably be able to see just graphics issues. This also applied to brake lights, I could still see running lights just fine but the brake light wasn't lighting up in braking zones for me when I was further back on cars. Luckily this doesn't make a difference since once I got close for it to matter they were fine but still annoying.

Good information Adam. I didn't seem to get a choice of car when I joined the lobby I raced in it just put me automatically into one so I can't yet comment on how they feel to me. I would usually go for an Aston as I love that marque but from what you are saying it might not be such a good one to use. I'll test it out though.
Interesting point on the view used. I just stuck with the default cockpit view which had the wheel on show and tbh I didn't notice anywhere that enabled me to change anything with that. Where did you find the option to change things in the view? I'll have to investigate this tomorrow as I can understand why the performance may be a bit smoother without having to draw the constant wheel movement as well. Good spot, I hope I find the same benefit you have as performance is one of the games biggest drawbacks right now.
On the subject of the view something I found that was really annoying was that part of the game was outside the outer boundaries of my TV screen. The information displayed at the top and bottom was not completely visible. In every other game i've got part of the initial setup enables you to alter where the screen boundaries are but that didn't happen for me with this game and I couldn't find any setting that allowed me to adjust it. Anyone else find this?
How are your ratings coming on so far? They are a bit confusing and not very well outlined in the graphs you can see but the explanations are quite clear. It's not very good at determining the fault for incidents though and it appears that even when you are the victim of being punted off it counts against your rating. In those two races I had where I was taken out several times through no fault of my own my safety rating was adversely affected which really sucks especially as that determines whether you can take part in one of the lobby options available. That should be adjusted somehow to make such incidents not adversely effect you.

As far as views go I tended to cycle between the dash views with and without the wheel visible. I preferred the closer view without the wheel as it gave me a better view of the track.
I tried all the cars apart from the Bentley, Lexus and BMW. My favourite was probably the McLaren or Lamborghini, the Ferrari was nice to. The Mercedes I found to be an understeer monster but that may be just the way I was driving it. I was hoping the Audi and Porsche would be nice but wasn't keen on their handling.
Peter you can map a button to change the view in the control options menu.

Adam, I tried the cockpit view without wheel as I couldn’t find an option to remove the hands from the default cockpit view. Times improved but I felt I was sat too low in the car and don’t want to lower the height of my TV to compensate. Ridiculously, my time improved further when I switched to ‘sat on the bonnet’ view and the game was smoother too. Going to lower the TV later and try again as that’s not exactly a sim view.

This used to be the case back in my PC racing days with Grand Prix Legends. The framerate on some older pc's was not great and many took to driving from the rollbar view to improve that and it invariably led to better lap times as the drive was much smoother.

I agree with all of that and will just add something else "What a pile of shit".
Oh, one other thing I found out is if you plug a keyboard in and press F2 you can find options in there to alter seat position. No FOV though. (I've not tried it myself, but it's in the forum)

Here's a video with Thrustmaster wheel settings I switched to yesterday with the exception of the steer lock which I have at 360. There's also a Logitech video on their channel for you folks who use it.

There's also a Logitech video on their channel for you folks who use it. That's useful information there, thanks . I'll try those settings later. One thing though, I was racing at Silverstone in multiplayer last night and no way was it as impressive looking or as smooth as in that video. Looking at that it makes me want to go out and buy it again lol So what's the difference, was that not actual console footage?

Well that's good to see and although no dates yet it does seem as though private lobbies are very early on their roadmap and performance issues too. Fingers crossed guys 🤞
