My view at present is to stay with pcars1 . Trying to work through all the races like @y22rydrso that will keep me occupied foe a while.
I know that say console versions are a port of the pc game but I just cannot wrap my head around why they have so many issues compared to the pc version.
Either sms are as hacked off as the gamers (and can't say anything due to contract with console manufacturers )or they knew about the issues and I suing a bugged game doesn't sit high on their morality index.
If it is a cockup by sms if I was xbox I would be wrapping their knuckles as it makes the xbox system look ridiculous

To be fair to SMS, the system IS ridiculous. I'm not one for defending them either! It's fine if you're a first party developer, but anybody else is gonna struggle getting horsepower out the betamax player sitting under your tele. These guys are making a program that really shouldn't be played on less than a PC, a PSPro, or XOX. I can't wait to get rid of mine.
Did you order a XOX, bud?

Yes the X0X is on order due around 7th November. I did think about the pc but decided against it on my cost/benefit rule. I know myself and it would turn into a 1 man arms race as i would not be able to stop myself chasing the holy grail of pc gaming thus depleting my bank balance at an alarming rate as well as tinkering to the early hours of each day . I have been there in an earlier life and whilst fun I don't want to release the genie again

The magic lamp is most definitely left unpolished!

Patch is out apparently for PC and PS4 so should be with Xbox users in the next couple of weeks with a bit of luck. I'll look forward to further feedback once it's live.

I think if you look at their forum you would think the game was entirely unplayable. That's mince. I'm Scottish. I know my mince. I've got too much other stuff going on game wise, I've got about 7 games in my queue right now. I want to get into project but if it's just gonna change constantly like the first one did I'm gonna shelve it. No point learning stuff that's just gonna change. Like the gear protection thing? No more quick shifting into corners. Stuff like that. I'm waiting not because I agree with anybody over on their forum about it's condition because I don't, but because it's not worth using a XO for this. We were sold a media box, not a games console. 900p gaming. Honestly...

I tend to agree that the people on the forum can be a bit over the top.. either one way or the other but there's other people who I have spoken that I know through racing with them that are not prone to the same sort of exaggeration that have the game that do also say it is a bit of a mess. Multi-player in particular is causing all sorts of issues, in many instances more-so than with the first one. I am probably going to go the digital route for it unless I see it in the bargain bin at CEX but i'll have to wait some time I think as it's still at 50 quid digitally and I am not really prepared to pay out that sort of money right now. Luckily there is plenty out there that works very well already so Project Cars can stay on the wait list for a while.

Overall I am pleased with the game. I have only raced the karts, Formula Rookie, Ginetta G55 GT3 and GT 4. In my opinion the handling is much improved from pCars1. The ability to jump around different race classes is a plus (compared to having to skip through a calendar in pCars 1). The tuning menus are straight forward with the exception of the differential tab (I am still wrapping my head around it, but it seems like you can have multiple varieties of differentials on the same car). Graphically everything looks fine (I never really made my purchases of race games based on eye candy though). I drive in a narrow FOV from the cockpit and the only thing I have noticed so far is that I see the driver hand flicker occasionally. The spotter and engineer are accurate, however I would like a bit more information (like you get from CrewChief). It took me a little bit to dial in my FFB (TX wheel) and I found that the advice on the forums was useless. After giving up on the forums, I spent probably less than an hour to get it the way I want it. I can feel oversteer, understeer, and bumps to my taste (much better than I could in pCars 1). Also I can easily catch the back end when it slides out now.
Problems that I have experienced (none of which have been game breakers in order of personal importance) - Saving of setups can be aggravating (sometimes they are there sometimes not, then you back out and then they are there again). Then it also depends on the selections you make when saving. I have found that when you save as new setup (even if you are modifying) that the tune will save (when you select "new" you can save it over the tune. I have managed to save tunes by track, however I do record at least a base tune for the cars in the event the tune does not show up. - Editing the HUD not saving consistently (although it is nice that there is quite a bit of modifying you can do to suit your taste) - UDP not implemented yet (waiting on the patch) - The hand flicker - Online racing. I kept getting disconnected from the lobbies.

The patch is out on Xbox now...
Seems that the setup saving is corrected. UDP is enabled (tested with vrHive, CrewChief, vHud) Seems like the AI are a bit more challenging (or my driving has gone downhill...)
Negatives noted so far - Hand Flicker remains - Can't save any HUD edits (worse than before)

One if my big reasons for not buying yet is because they hadn't solved the loss of FFB problem that had plagued pCars 1 so I was hoping the patch would provide that. 7.5gb so hopefully it makes a major difference overall. Have you had much online racing yet? That was a mess pre-patch so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this patch solves those problems.

Now if it is full support on Xbox that's ad ground breaking as udp support

Still waiting for xboxonex but this could be a buy button box with buttkicker (Sat on my shelf) I'm getting interested My wheel is the Thrustmaster TX with the stock rim (I want to upgrade the rim, but I need to set some cash aside for that)... I did not experience any force feedback problems. I disregarded pretty much what everyone was saying on the pCars forums and started messing with the settings to find what I like. I feel it is much better than pCars 1. I can feel the understeer and oversteer. KEYBOARDS!!!!! I can attest that they work. I grabbed an old USB keyboard (+8 years old) plugged it into my USB hub that is attached to my XBOX ONE (Day one edition) and I was able to map buttons. I am about to head out and purchase a number keypad (19 - 23 buttons) so I can plug it in and use that as a button box until I make a true button box.

I forgot... Prior to the patch I would lose all FFB on my Thrustmaster TX. I would have to restart the game to get it back. I have not experienced any loss of FFB since the patch.

Button Mapping
This is what I have found so far (I did not have look left, right, up and down mapped). The below information was derived from assigning a key to DRS.
Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 Number of Keys: 108 Keys (keyboard with the number pad built in) Error Received "Multiple inputs were detected. No action was assigned": ESC, Pause Break Keys that were able to be mapped: F1-F9, F11, F12, `, 1-9, =,backspace, Tab, Q, W, E, R T, Y, U, I, O, P, left bracket([), right bracket (]), back slash (\), caps lock, A, S, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, semi-colon (, apostrophe ('), Enter, left shift, Z, X, C, V, B, N, M, comma(,) , period(.), forward slash(/), left control, Space, SysRq (Prt Scn), Scroll Lock, Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End, Page Down, Up, Down, Left, Right.
On the number pad: Num Lock, /, *, -, 0 through 9, +, Enter (Watch out on the number pad as NUM Lock will enable alternate features)
Keys unable to map: F10, F Lock, -, Start (acts as the guide button), Alt, Num Pad decimal

Fantastic news, looks like I need to checkout button boxes as not good at building tat sort of stuff. y22rydr which number pad did you go for I ended up with a few too many in me last night so I didn't make it out of the house. I plan to stop by some stores today and see what is available at the secondhand stores before I end up at an office supply store. Long term I plan on building an arduino button box with momentary switches.
