I ended up getting this one: 19-Key KeypadI have been trying to find some Arduino Code that will work for a button box. I have found some but I am running into errors when I go to verify the code. Once I have the code and I can verify that it works, then I go ahead and order parts for it (well price them and compare to what derekspeare offers).
I am satisfied with just using the keypad. I have mapped the ARBs, Brake bias, KERS, DRS, Lights, and Wipers to the keypad (I have 4 more open spots). I now have A and B on the wheel mapped to look right and left. Problems experienced: If number lock is on “8” looks up, “2” looks down, “4” looks left, and “6” looks right. The backspace is not able get mapped. If number lock is off the “5” is not usable Notes: You could essentially double the number of keys by using the Number Lock button. I currently have the keypad double-sided taped to my wheel base. I am probably going to make some kind of extension to move it further out because as it sits right now I can’t see some of the buttons (I just need to move it about 1-2 inches out). The only other change I would want to make is figure out a way to put labels on the keys.

Just wanted to share with you all what I have so far with using the keypad as a button box. I made the labels in Microsoft Word and then printed it on some old CD labeling paper I had laying around.

That's great news on the button mapping at long last. A big bonus that I wish others would follow. I've actually had a usb keypad plugged in for some time for chat and other app purposes so i'm good to go on that front but a dedicated number pad would of course be favourable if it was just for the game. y22rydr out of interest do you race in any leagues or online at all? Multiplayer does seem to be the area where the game has fallen well short of requirements and most of the leagues that I have followed have had to put their start dates on hold or have just never got any traction because the number of people that are not signing up due to the problems even post patch. The main place I frequent has a really good bunch of guys but they all say the game is far from ready for league play but also even offline is broken in many respects and needs a lot more work. We race an Assetto series on off weekends from our F1 league and they all to a man said Assetto is like night and day compared to pCars both in handling and FFB. On eof the reasons I was looking forward to it was the inclusion of some ovals and an Indycar league was planned but that has big problems with tyres and AI according to those I have spoken to and the tests have been very poor. Have you tried the ovals and Indycar in particular at all? Just trying to get as much feedback as I can. I had hoped this patch was going to be the one that would push me to a purchase but think it still seems a way's off yet.

I have only been online a couple of times and that was before the patch. I experienced some problems with starting connected (I have cable internet with a claimed speed of 300mb/s, usually tests out at over 200).
I have not tried the Indy cars out.
Regarding Asdetto Corsa... For some reason I could not get into it. I think that was due to the major problems at launch time which continued on for awhile. I have not played it in over 4 months.

It seems it's true and button box works as well ! Still waiting for xboxonex but this could be a buy button box with buttkicker (Sat on my shelf) I'm getting interested I disregarded pretty much what everyone was saying on the pCars forums and started messing with the settings to find what I like. I feel it is much better than pCars 1. ^ This!! Ignore everything on that forum is my advice, it's mostly all havers and angst. I've not had any issues with online at all really. I'm the same as you, 300 pipe, tests about 250 most of the day sometimes a little higher. I'm not trying to take part in a league mind you but the game is already better than the first game in so many ways. I think the best way is just to buy the thing and see what you think yourself. It has many flaws, yes, but if you enjoyed the first one then you'll enjoy this more. I think too much is being made of what other people are saying, fact is most of you will end up buying it anyway, get it and try it. I don't think disappointment will be the first place you go to.

Tbh I haven't been to that forum for some time as it's too difficult to get an unbiased perspective without reading through a lot of chaff lol. It's the feedback and problems experienced by everyone I race with that is causing me the most reticence. Having watched their attempts to race online has been frustrating for me watching let alone them racing lol and the discussions I have had with the leagues I was looking to run in have pretty much all come to the same conclusion re it's unsuitability for league play at present. Offline I guess may be another matter.
I do agree with Y22's ascertion that your own settings are very particular and there's no one size fits all so I get that side of it as it's the same with pretty much every game and at least this year it's not as convoluted as it was in pCars 1 to work out what settings were good for you. I am sure I would find something to suit my requirements. I also do like the look of the game itself and the renewed structure in terms of setup screens, game settings, wheel, etc. are a huge improvement but there are too many issues there to lay out the money we are expected to fork out for it right now for me especially in terms of online play.

I guess for every comment about a problem you could get another comment without any. I still think you should go see for yourself, other people's opinions aren't particularly helpful in this instance. Some people have a higher tolerance for issues. I'm not one of those people. My wheel has been perfect from the get-go and I decided to go down the settings route myself. It's very personal and I know what I like so I figured just see what there is to see. Works a treat. As does online, always did for me. Edit: Is there another disc/digital thing going on here? I'm digital and I couldn't even replicate some of the issues I heard going about. Is disc performing below the digital you think?

I think what swayed me from punting straight off was the lack of xbox video prior to release and I just had a gut feeling to wait. Pcars 1 is still very entertaining for me as I am still learning my car craft and there is enough career to keep me well occupied. I think if the league situation had been better ( in fact I cant even remember anybody praising the new league setup on PC - but may have missed it) I would have jumped in with both feet. Ovals are a funny one - on the PC they where really praised in the WMD forum and again considering all the flack they took for omitting in Pcars 1 I expected to see full some praise on the forums - but again it has been quite. I skim the forums but find the issues/flack is nowhere near the last one and a lot of it is due to people wanting it dumbing down! My plan is to wait until my xboxonex lands around next week - then have a couple of weeks getting pissed at Twickenham - move everything over to new console and purchase Pcars 2 and go digital this time like innerspace. The actual launch and after effects are generally muted compared to PCars 1 and I wonder whether SMS are happy with that or have they had a lower than expected take up or is it because the majority are happy One thing I did find odd is that your TT tune is automatically shared with other users - no option not too - very weird design choice so when we have a TT it will be a trip in a formula type to make Innerspace HQ cough up his beloved tune!!

Alas, no formula tune yet... My project cars 1 tune was the result of about 12 months of solely FA racing. It was quite remarkable, you could just do anything you wanted with it and the car would respond brilliantly and save the tyres. I think I've spent maybe 13 hours in total and at least 8 of those have been fawning over my touring car - she's muscly and compact. Like corned beef. GT3 I was never a fan of and I'm even less of a fan now. It's an awkward level of speed with not enough braking but touring car is fair tickling my pickle just now. I've not touched any open wheel yet. I'll share that project cars 1 tune now though, I'm unlikely to go back to it.

Regarding online it seems smaller lobbies work better but once you start getting to bigger grids the problems become more apparent. I would agree with you on the try it yourself scenario as in the past that's been my way too but money's too tight at the moment to take a chance on something that could be a bust at present. I had wanted to go digital myself as it's much more convenient but that 50 quid price tag puts me off when I can pick it up for much cheaper on disc. i'm sure my resolve will weaken at some point and i'll break and pick it up.. it's already at CEX actually but only a couple of quid cheaper than anywhere else so no point going that route at the moment. Good to see you are having fun with it anyway

Aye, it's a cost thing really - if you aren't flush then it will seem even less appealing. Bugger it, give it a few months - the last one dropped 50% within 4 months the last time.

I think more than anything that is the thing that has always confused me so much... on the same platform how there is such a wide ranging experience of the very same game!! I can understand that on a PC with it's myriad of different possibilities regarding the hardware involved but on a console it makes no sense. pCars 1 was the same. Very strange beast lol.
